Fished in the stream of the small
Colorado river.
Well it's quite a road up there for a Prius type vehicle, but I made it. Bonus, ranger at the end answering questions. Gorgeous scenery, amazing geology, interesting hydrology. Plan on 3 times as much time as your map says.
We’ve seen the Colorado River a few times but never right up to it. We dipped our hands in. It was really cold still in late July. This picture is from the Colorado River Hike on the west side of RMNP.
The climb up the switch back is a little scary with shoulders of ice and snow ten feet high on both sides . Only enough room to pass another car at the corners. But once you hit the top and look over the lands below standing in a trickle of water that gathers in a fast moving swampy plateau which then flows ever more rapidly becoming the Colorado River. The ride up that switch back fades from memory.
Very scenic place. Enjoyed driving the scenic byway
