Must see destination. Great for all ages. Note this is a seasonal site. Closed in winter, shorter hours and less staff in early spring and late fall. Check website for hours.
Staff in historic clothing do presentations all day long, or you can just wander through the historically accurate restored 1770s era fort.
Learn about 1700s traders, soldiers, American Indians, the women at the fort, and more. Demonstrations about period musket firing, cannon firing, gardening, cooking, baking in an outdoor bread oven and more. Two theaters with historic video presentations about 20 minutes long. Three+ museum exhibits, many houses you can walk through. Playground for the kids.
Picnic area, restrooms, close up view of Bridge and souvenir shop are in area before you have to pay and worth a stop even if you can't get to fort.response / report this review -

Just like stepping back in time. No motor driven vehicles. Loved the carriage tour. best way to see the island.

This is an interesting park under the bridge that gives you the unique perspective for great photos. The little shop is fun but be prepared for a rocky beach and cold water so swimming isn't much fun. Stop, take a few photos, grab a souvenir and keep heading north!

This place was awesome. I'm a bit of a history nerd though so there might be some bias. It has an awesome view of the bridge though and where else can you see two great lakes in one visit.

We did not go through the fort but strolled the park with our two dogs. Their are many informative postings through out plus the old light house which one can climb to the top if able. This was used before the bridge was built in 1957 at the cost of 100,000 million dollars. The bridge has its own fog horn system.

We love stopping here when we stay in Mackinaw City. There is a great view of the Mackinac bridge and the light house. You can go inside the light house and walk around. They also have a little shop in there the beach is beautiful and you can see Mackinac Island from there. Don't miss out on this if you are in the area

What a beautiful place with knowledgeable and gracious staff! The facility is wonderful, and the costumed staff really bring it to life. Hats off to Luke, who gave our family a wonderful walking tour this afternoon. I've been teaching Michigan history for 29 years, and this was a great way to get spruced-up for another new school year!

Wonderful historic exhibits and period actors/interpreters! Always a great stop! They also have a good play set for the kids to burn off some energy! Don't miss the blacksmith or the cannon firing!

We thought it was expensive but we didn't understand all that was there. It was great, lots of history and interactivity. We especially liked the muskets being fired. Everyone there was friendly, helpful, and informative. If you are in Mackinaw for a day it's a must. Give yourself lots of time, since there is so much to see and do.

Lots of guided instruction, interactive exhibits and a continual archaeology dig make it great for historically minded fans. The docents in costume are full of stories of the previous tenants. Make sure you speak with them.

So amazing! I highly recommend purchasing the dual tickets for the fort & lighthouse. Definitely worth it!

Very nice place. There is a lot of historical artifacts here. The only thingbthatvwas bad were all.the little flying bugs that were there. I was told the bugs come for 2 weeks and then go away. So I suggest you go in June or later to avoid them
