Great draft beer selection including local drafts. The Bangers dip is by far the best of the trio appetizer. Although the fish & chips weren't my cup of tea, I want to come back and try something else. The ambiance alone deserves another visit.
We had our sons grooms dinner here the day before his wedding. The room upstairs was somewhat small for as many people as we had but we made it work. Food was good. Drinks were weak but most of the party was drinking beer. It ended up being less expensive than we had planned. The evening was a success and everyone had fun!!
Overall a solid experience, I plan on returning again. I ordered the Fish and Chips with a side of mac and cheese. The setting is rustic in style and brings back the feelings of a bygone era.
The service was a little slow in the beginning especially considering it was not very busy that night, however after ordering the waitresses came by multiple times to ask how the food was and to make sure nothing else was required. The staff was friendly and inviting, and made the evening pleasant.
At the end of the night the food was good. Two of the pieces of fish were better than I was expecting and had the right amount of breading with just a hint of flavoring. Alas, the last piece of fish that I had was a little chewy and was slightly below average (especially compared to the precedent set with the other two). The fries were also above par; they were slightly crunchy without being overcooked and were not soggy in the slightest. They also had a touch of flavoring which was noticeable even with a small dollop of ketchup. The mac and cheese was blander than I was expecting when compared to the other portions of the dinner. The grated cheese on top was nice however the cheese sauce itself was lacking some flavor. Overall the food was above par and the fish and chips portion was well executed.
I would recommend going here for the fish and chips. The friendly and rustic atmosphere works well for this quaint pub and I would recommend going here.
The food here is delicious, and the service is pretty good as well. My family and I have our usual choices we get each time, and they're nothing if not consistent. Being so close to the railroad tracks it seems impossible to miss at least one train going by, and that's an adventure in itself.
Loved the atmosphere! Beer was good. My daughters food - delicious!!
Unfortunately I chose the veggie roll up instead of the fish and chips. That was not my thing - very gooey. Can’t wait to go back and get the fish and chips that I’ve heard such wonderful things about.
Went out of their way to help set table for us on lower level as my 85-year-old mother was with us. I had the Chicken Cesar Wrap which was flavorful and had a nice amount of chicken with Romaine lettuce, Parmesan cheese, and dressing. I ordered sweet potato fries which were waffle shaped and came hot, not greasy, and were some of the best I have eaten.
Food was good, service excellent. We stayed quite a long time and were never rushed or made to feel we should leave. Granted it was before it got busy on a Sat night, but I would definitely go back. They have quite an extensive menu.
Fantastic food and a friendly atmosphere. We were fortunate to be seated upstairs so we could enjoy a small dining atmosphere. We felt like we were part of the community. The beer cheese and pretzels were worth the visit, but all our food was outstanding. Highly recommend.
After spending about 30 mins trying to decide what to eat for dinner on a Thursday night with no specific cravings for anything. My boyfriend agreed to try here, I had been here once before over 5 years ago. We decided to eat upstairs outside on the patio. Even though the train tracks are right next to the building and the trains horns our loud I liked the views and nice night weather.
My boyfriend ordered the sweet potato waffle fries that came with a maple sauce for his appetizer which he really liked. Then followed that up with the 12 ounces of cod fish which came with two sides, he ordered the mac and cheese and a salad. It was a lot of food. I had the bangers dip, which was just okay and a glass of Riesling. The food is reasonably priced and the waitresses were both friendly. It was pretty quiet there, only one or two tables of patrons on each level indoors and on the patio. I was surprised to see that they stay open until 2am. Maybe it was a slow night since it was drizzling outside, we were there around 9pm. I would definitely go back here again. Since I am from London though, I had hopes of more pub like food. I had thought they would of at least had bangers and mash.
The food was pretty good. The bar had a good variety as well. The only weird thing is the soda tasted a bit weird. It's also a good spot to rail fan from if your into that. The service was also fast, and very kind. It's an awesome area, with an awesome restaurant. I'd recommend it!
Unique small place , food and drinks great. If you like pub like feel you will enjoy this place.
The bartender here is a drunk disgrace. She literally called me profanities I don't want to post publicly, in front of my family. No one wants to come here because of your employees. Get it together! Horrible, horrible establishment.
The food was great. Give the zero stars for service. We were traveling to Cincinnati on business and really just wanted to have some food and drinks because we had driven five hours and our hotel was not the greatest in their franchise. We sat down to lunch our waitress was very frustrated that the tiny dining room was 3/4 full. Noticing that she was busy, when she got our table tried to order our drinks and food at the same time, both ordering the awesome fish and ships. She was annoyed by this and said other people had sat down before us. She was not the kind of waitress that writes anything down which may have been part of her problem with handling six tables at lunch.
Later that night we just decided return to the cock and bull for dinner Instead of go to some chain restaurant or head downtown. We just wanted to go someplace warm, close and easy to hang out in. When we sat at the bar the bartender scowled at me and demanded to know what we wanted and if we like needed menus. I thought that maybe she didn't like me because I had bothered to dress up and look nice for my boyfriend because sometimes female waitresses dislike serving women. She was pretty rude and basically ignored me in favor of talking to my boyfriend. Little did she know I was going to be paying the bill that night. After we had ordered and I got a glass of $8 wine in dirty glass ( lunch wine glass was gross too), she began huffing and puffing about how they were going to close early to the other customers, put a rude closing at 9pm! sign on the front door, started turning off the lights and pushing in the chairs by dragging them across the floor very loudly. Message sent! Which is really what you want when you just get your food at 8:30pm. There was light precipitation of melting snow on outside not a blizzard. One of the other employees that went out to smoke came in the front and yelled party of 12 to mess with this chick. So they cared little for the existing customers experience. We felt really ignored and pretty much antagonized to leave. When I threw my card down on the bar and she heard it, she said are you ready to go? I said well yeah, obviously from the monument we came in you have shown us that you want to leave work early and don't want or need us to spend anymore time or money here. She looked all shocked and said that she had never told us that and kept arguing. It is really awesome to pay for the privilege of being treated like that while I try eat food in a "public house" because I can't cook in my hotel room. Also, I need to a remember that a restaurant is all about what people who happen to be working there that day want. It isn't about how a tired, hungry, traveler willing to pay people to cook for them desires to end their day in a pleasant way wants. It was only a Monday! If you just can't possibly handle people on a Monday, stay closed. Food was great though. See ya Cincinnati.
Great beer selection. Good appetizers. Great place for after work happy hour hangout.
Great place for Happy Hours after work. Their appetizers are great - I've had the quesadillas, spinach dip, and wings. They offer a lot of beers on tap.
