We only stayed there once and it started out pretty bad. Room had broken air conditioner and was very hot and humid. The hotel was extremely busy. The only room left was a suite and the manager upgraded our room at no charge to ensure we had a comfortable stay. It was greatly appreciated. They do everything they can to make sure you are comfortable. Great service.

So much character! Beautiful, great staff! Amazing pool. It'll be sad to see this place go, we always stay here when we come to Columbus!

I like this hotel but our room wasn't the best looking. The bathroom ceiling was falling through. The wallpaper was coming off. The carpet looked worn and dirty. The hotel also seemed understaffed. We went swimming twice and there were no pool side towels either times. 11pm is quiet time but there were people outside our room making loud noises until 3am. We will definitely make sure we don't have a poolside room next time.

We stayed here last December because of the indoor pool. My kids loved it. My wife and I thought that the pool area was pretty dark, dank, and smelled like chlorine. They should move to using bromine, but that's their business. The bathroom area in the pool area is super creepy.
The few guests that stayed at the same time we did were rambunctious to the point of annoying. No idea if this is common, but they just had no respect for the place.
Staff was awesome. Didn't eat in the building on this trip, but I have photographed a few wedding receptions in the banquet hall and that part of the hotel is really nice for a Clarion property. The food they served was great.response / report this review -

The Clarion was a nice place to stay. It is a little older but that is part of the charm. The lobby and general area has some cool architecture. The rooms are where the hotel shows its age. Staff was friendly and they have a large pool area with a table tennis court and other fun activities.

Vegetarian options on the buffet were limited to some steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. A hot pasta option would have been appreciated. The cold pasta salad contained ham, but was not labeled as such and only discovered after taking a few bites. The green beans contained some form of meat, but that was visible before taking it on my plate. The other issue was a loud conference going on in the adjacent room. The music and speakers from the other conference frequently drowned out our speakers.

Absolutely Worst Hotel experience for the value.
We arrived for a late-evening check in (which we had pre-arranged) and went smoothly. Then everything went down hill after that.
-My wife killed a massive cockroach in the restroom not long after we arrived. Shortly after, we noticed a steady leak from the ceiling into the bathtub
-After an apology and arrangement to move to another room, I found an unknown pill, candy littering the room, and what looked like maybe dried maggots in the refrigerator? We had three children and a dog with us, which could have turned into a VERY serious situation.
-For the first 2 nights, the door lock would not function. The receptionist insisted it was just dirty (or the standard user error), but the door lock would not even indicate a key input, let alone a wrong or wiped key. They would only send someone to 'clean' the card slot, but left us with a faulty door for the entire trip.
-After meeting at the front desk once again for the lock issue, the receptionist insisted we were scheduled to check out then. I politely informed her that we had another night booked originally with no change, but she became very 'sassy', and insisted that she herself spoke with my wife, and that we were mistaken. After my wife (familiar with hotel systems) spoke with her manager, they discovered the room was booked incorrectly by staff, but insisted we move our entire family to another room immediately. My wife resolved this, as I was furious at this point.
-On night 2, I ordered two bar drinks without issue or concern. On night 3, I ordered the same two drinks, but was charged significantly more. But not before waiting 10 minutes for a bartender to arrive at the bar, tell me she's filling in, search for Sour Mix to no avail, suggest I order a new drink BUT THEN offer the amaretto sour without sour mix and extra anyway.
-At breakfast, staff offered soft drinks or water, but we had to walk around and track down staff for refills. And at any point we needed to politely ask staff for assistance, they made it VERY clear that they did not want to be working that day.
-I called the restaurant at 10:30am and confirmed that they offered lunch in-house or via room service, but later (after leaving my wife without a vehicle) they told her that they were closed until 5PM. Then after she spent additional time finding lunch arrangements (due to the front desk not knowing who delivered to the hotel) they told her they were mistaken, and that they were in fact open for lunch.
At the end of the day, they apologized and offered to remove $20 from our 3 night stay.
Will absolutely never stay in (or refer) this hotel again in the future.response / report this review -

My wife and I stayed here last weekend for a rally in the conference center and thought this hotel was quite good. Better than a lot of hotels I have stayed in the past. Yes it is an older hotel (originally was a Holiday Inn) but is in the process of remodeling. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed three nights and were very satisfied with the hotel. Durning out stay, the elevators were undergoing major upgrades so only one was working at that time. This hotel was a great place for our rally we attended. This was our first time staying at this hotel and it will not be our last. We would stay here, anytime we are in the area, if we need a hotel room. Was very pleased with the hotel and staff.
