Great location for when you are taking a stroll or bike ride around the river walk and want to grab a bite. We stopped in during happy hour and shared three different empanadas and fish tacos. The empanadas were flaky and full of flavor. Fish tacos were good but nothing special, I prefer the chicken tacos instead. The bar tender was extremely accommodating and gave great service!

I had never been before, so me and a friend decided to give it a try. We'd heard great things, so we sat out on the patio under the moon. There were two friendly dogs nearby, which was nice. (I love dogs!) The food and drinks were really good, though a little pricey, but the service was kind of slow. It didn't appear that they were super busy, but maybe the kitchen or wait staff was down a person or two. I'd definitely go back!

I've only been here a couple times, but I've absolutely loved every single thing I've had here. Their queso with chorizo is the best I've ever had. They are known for their tequila bar, which is impressive and very tempting. I've had the tamales and enchiladas. Both were outstanding. The tamale is steamed in a banana leaf and is delicious. The inside of the place is cool looking with an awesome bar. It's located on the canal with an large outdoor area near the canal. Our server was great both times and were very friendly as well. It's a tad pricier than your normal Mexican restaurant, but it's worth it and more authentic. Craft beer is also served here besides liquor. High chairs are available for children as well.

Ate dinner here yesterday and it was fantastic. Would definitely come here again. The outdoor seating is great for watching the sun set, especially if the weather is nice. Our waiters made sure we were well taken care of and were very friendly. We ordered several taco platters, as well as the side pictured, and they tasted amazing.

Went to Richmond as an impromptu trip and decided to eat here as we walked by. Amazing atmosphere! incredibly friendly staff. if you are a tequlia lover this place is definitely for you. Had a frozen mango margarita and it was to die for. The food was just as delicious and super fresh. I would make the drive back to Richmond just to go here.

Food was fresh. Empanadas were great. Didn't care to much for the rice and beans. Loved that they had a huge drink selection. Unfortunately the frozen margarita machine was down so we didn't get to try that. Atmosphere was lively and was busy but didn't feel crowded.

Decent drinks, the food was good but nothing great. Service was nice and good came out quickly. Place stays fairly busy and has a nice location next to the canal. Good call for a casual night out with friends or a date.

A slightly upscale and lively take on Mexican. The location is great, right along the canal with plenty of outdoor seating. The building has the typical Richmond feel: historic building refurbished with an edge. The bar menu is extensive, showcasing too many tequila varieties to count. The food is fresh and delicious. They have a salsa flight available for order and two house-made hot sauces to the table with your meal. Empanadas and tamales are phenomenal. They seemed to be experimenting with a brunch buffet while we were there, as well. While we did not try it, it looked promising. Lastly, don't let the lack of parking in the area deter you, as they will validate parking in a nearby garage.

I absolutely enjoyed the atmosphere and had fantastic service. Really enjoyed the fresh guacamole and chips & salsa (including the hot sauces). The fried plantains were wonderful as well. My meal was huge (so the price really does seem to reflect a lot of bang for the buck) and I took leftovers home for a second meal later.

Casa Del Barco opened in 2013, so it is one of the newer places to eat in the downtown area and it still looks fun and fresh.
That said, it ain't the cheapest place to eat around, and the portions are not huge either but in the five or six times we have been there (always for lunch) the food has been very good tasting, the salsa fairly mind blowing and the service fairly quick and attentive.
We typically go as a group ranging from 4 to 10 people, and the staff has no problem accommodating us even when we each request separate bills.
Given the ambience and their great selection of tequilas and beers, it looks like it should be a fun place to go in the evening but our experience has only been during the day.
Good lunchtime fare. Friendly service. Reasonable fast for lunch. A tad pricey. will continue to go there for lunch as time and funds allow!response / report this review -

Located on the canal with indoor and outdoor seating, largest selection of tequila in town with flight options and hard to find varieties, a unique approach to Mexican cuisine that refreshingly differs from run-of-the-mill Mexican.

This is a 3.5 star kind of place. Gave it 4 stars for convenience because I live close. Good food, but a bit overpriced for what you get. The Mexzookie dessert is sooo good (mostly cooked, gooey brownie with some red pepper for a little kick and ice cream). Chips and salsa here are really good as well. Atmosphere is very nice and great patio when the weather is nice.

A upscale take on Mexican food. Have gone here twice with a group of friends and both times it has been amazing. Had two different kinds of chicken tacos and both were to die for they were served with a side of potato wedges that at first seemed a little odd but were the best fries I have had in a long time. Great place to go with a group of friends after a night on the town.

Was really excited to try this place but was very disappointed. The atmosphere was nice and colorful. We ordered drinks, one being a very flavorless bloody mary, tasted very watered down even when asked for extra spicy. When we got our food all of us except for one said that the food was almost flavorless. The server also never even came back to ask us how we liked our food so we never got a chance to tell her. We sent a dish back to the kitchen because it seriously tasted like nothing. no flavor what so ever. I was expecting a manager to come back and check on us, considering that is what you should do when there is something sent back but nothing. Overall do not recommend this restaurant. There are too many good restaurants to waste money here.
