As a graduate of this institution, it is great to see the school continously evolve into what it is today. If you want 1 one 1 interactions with your professors, you want to feel like a person rather than a number; Carthage College is the place for you. College was a great experience in my life, I made life long friends, and going to Carthage was the best decision I could have made.

After 2.5 years, I had learned a lot from the professors who had studied abroad and came from different backgrounds. However, even after $45k a year and having small class sizes with one veteran professor. they apparently need training in inclusion and diversity. If you’re not white and “well-off”, this school will suck and it will be hard to fit in or find anything that you can relate to. I was president of Latinos unidos and had one member, I was in Democrats at Carthage and fencing club I met lots of great people. But overall, the campus has a huge issue with apathy and lack of support for anything that isn’t “traditionally white”. They simply don’t give a care about anyone else. Including the billing department that asked if the reason I was late on my payment was because I didn’t have a social security card or my advisor speaking to me in Spanish and patronizing me when even my Spanish is horrible. Or being called out in international politics and asked if my father beat my mother because of “machista” culture or my Spanish professor saying that I had no right to hate on historical events of colonialism or neo-colonialism because my name and last name is Spanish. Like I said, great professional services offered to you if you’re white but if you want to spend that much money on your education; I recommend staying away from Carthage. There’s UW Madison or other great schools in Wisconsin or even better in Illinois.

Great small four year college with exceptional faculty and support staff. Picturesque campus with ample amenities. A variety of academic programs available. Frequent musical and other cultural performances.

Kind of white washed. Also kind of expensive. However, it has great amenities, a beautiful view, and bountiful opportunities.

Love this place, beautiful campus, on the lake, Great food, and choices. The staff are friendly.They have sports and up to date modern buildings.

Small college where, as a student, you can have significant impact if you want and work at it. The professors are very capable and since the school is small, you will likely get to know all of them by name (and they will get to know you too, which may not always work to your advantage :-) )
This is a school where living on campus and getting involved with the student activities is the thing to do. You can learn as much (or even more) via the activities and projects than just the classes.
It is also nice being half way between Chicago and Milwaukee. You can easily go to either for some fun and cultural events.
The lake is beautiful albeit winter can be harsh at times. Lake effect snow can dump a few feet over night.response / report this review
