I went in person to pick up tickets because I wanted no mistakes about the 3D or times since there would be a party of 7. I was given incorrect info and when I called to discuss the problem could never reach a person and there was no way to leave a message. I felt like the theatre did not want to make it possible for a customer to contact them and regretted my decision to keep my money local rather than going to Charlotte. I guess I will try going in person to discuss the matter and see if that makes a difference, but it is very time consuming.
When I met with the mgr in person he was very responsive as was the other staff. The actual theatre is very nice and my original rating was premature.
I took my teenage daughter and a few friends to the AMC Hickory, NC on Fri. 12/22/17 for the 10:15pm showing. This was our 1st time there since it is no longer the Carmike. While the movie was fine and the staff was friendly we were appalled by the lack of cleanliness. The floors of the entire place were nasty. There were spilled drinks, dropped food, paper napkins, straw wrappers and etc all over the place - and I don't mean just a little bit. The bathroom floors were wet and had toilet tissue all over them. All of the trashcans were running over and spilling out on to the floor. AMC did not make a good impression on my crew. Don't know if we will return or not. I never saw it in that condition when it was owned by Carmike.
Great popcorn. Great drinks (they have the Coke Freestyle machines so you can have a huge variety of drinks). They hold on to their movies for a while but also have MULTIPLE theaters so you have multiple opportunities to see the movie you want.
A large movie theatre with lots of options. They are a bit pricey, but it is well worth the money. Everything was clean, the staff was friendly, and the seating was decent. We went on a Sunday night and there were only six people in the movie we went to see. I will definitely be returning.
Hickory ‘s AMC movie theatre is fine, and is certainly improved since when it was Carmike theater. Some pluses are: nice and clean, kids and parents enjoy passing time in the lobby’s game arcade, the new management and staff are VERY friendly, helpful and patient, and the Stubs membership rewards program is great! Also appreciated how well they monitor alcohol sales- one drink per purchase and must wait 30 minutes between drink purchases. Should help avoid discord during movie showings!
I'm glad to see some positive change here. There needs to be a little more training of the staff though. It took 12 minutes to get pretzel bites.
Insane that they only have one side open to purchase tickets on a Friday night. Prices are outrageous and I will never buy concessions on principle - the mark up is beyond excessive. It is sad that going to the movies has become so expensive.
You can refill your drink for no extra money. You can also put your own butter on the popcorn. Tuesday's movies are lower price before five.
I'll continue to go given that there is no real option in town. But wish I could say that it was a clean smoothly run operation. Management has always been gracious and the big d theater is modern.
The staff here is friendly, and it's usually very clean and comfortable. One complaint is the line. There is no box office, so you have to wait behind everyone buying concessions, PLUS the "members" have their own express line, which makes the wait even longer for anyone else. I buy tickets ahead of time whenever possible.
Since they switched over to AMC the lobby, the restrooms and the theater are all disgusting! Plus the prices are more expensive for less quality! We have went to this theater since it first opened as Carmike and I have never ever saw it nasty until our last trip on Tuesday. I have pictures but I don't know how to share them on here of how nasty it really was but I will share them over on their FB page if I can. First off the lobby was disgusting. Everywhere you looked there was trash like napkins crumbled used, straw covers, lids, popcorn, sticky spots of split drinks newspapers threw all over the floors everywhere. There wasn't a clean space anywhere. So we didn't even get any popcorn or anything! The bathroom had no soap to wash your hands and hadn't been cleaned at all! Toilet paper all over the floors and trash cans over flowing. We went in to be seated for the movie and it was quite early so we were surprised to get in so early. But the reasoning we did get in so soon was that they didn't clean the theater from the previous viewing. There was popcorn and trash everywhere and cups still left in the drink holders. We tried to find the cleanest area to sit. Don't waste you money here. The staff was rude when I mentioned how nasty every area was in the building. How the theater was never cleaned and mentioned the bathrooms and the lobby mess. It's never been like this before no matter the time. They're were plenty of staff there but none of them were doing their jobs or even trying to pick up any. Do yourself a favor and drive further and pick a different theater. I know we will from this point on. That theater was GROSS!
AMC is not maintaining the theater properly. The floors in the lobby and bathroom are nasty. There wasn't enough staff to wait on us so even a short line took twice as long to make our purchase. The tickets are more expensive now and quality is not there.
There is no longer any manager, and it has been left to rot with movies that fail to run properly. GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!
I usually enjoy going to this movie theater. Although when I go there is a long line on weekend nights and during the day its not as busy. As far as I'm concerned I havent had any issues with this theater location like several of the reviewers on hereI hope they still keep giving me a good movie experience.
I went and saw a movie in the Big D section of the theater. While the seats are very nice, something about them made them become uncomfortable after about an hour sitting down. Other than that, the theater is nice and clean. The staff are friendly and helpful in finding your movie and getting your snacks. I have been to this theater many many times in my youth and I have great memories of it. Always a great time. It's the nicest theater in Hickory.
