The shelter is raised off the ground, and while I was there it was relatively clean. There is a bear box right by the shelter so no need to hang, which is nice.

The water source is only a couple minutes down the side Trail. Though I was told by someone at the shelter who hikes this section A lot it's not always running especially during dryer parts of the summer,

Their are also numerous tent sites around the shelter.

Nice place for overnight hikers to stay, close to McAfee Knob. Recent tree work done around the shelter for enhanced safety, and a new bear box added this summer!

Didn't stop here long since we had an injured person with us. However this was a great looking spot for camping with multiple campsites around it with picnic tables and a nearby source for water. Wish we could've spent the night here. Also isn't too far from Mcafee Knob so it'd be a good place to drop your pack to make the hike up to the knob a bit easier.
