This place is the absolute worst vet I've ever been to and he doesn't seem to care about his animals at all. Went to him for our sick dog that you could tell something was wrong with held his head down and tail between his legs, and the dr tells us he was at a good weight when you could see his ribs and told us he had a trace of whip worms granted our dog didn't want to eat 3 days prior to going gave him powder for the whip worms that was supposed to be mixed with his food well he's not eating so I couldn't get him to take the meds. So we call back and he tells us you have to force him to, then says well it might be something more so we might have to do labs. Umm no your not touching my dog. So we go to full circle and right away they want to do an x-ray and blood test because they think he has something blocking his intestines, and they found out he was on the verge of kidney failure so now there running ivs and checking more out. Please if you have an emergency never take your dog to Callahan animal hospital. Worst care I've ever seen and not to mention old fashioned.
Very affordable and knowledgeable about what he does. I had to take 3 dogs for a yearly EXAM and everyone in yulee where I live wanted over $400. I paid Callahan animal hospital less than $160. And received top of line care. He genuinely cares about the animals.
Going to Callahan Animal Hospital was the absolute worst experience ever! We had to make the difficult decision to put our English Mastiff, Lola, to sleep. She had cancerous tumors, hardly eating & hind legs barely able to hold her up. We are new to the Callahan area, so chose this vet because it was close & it was the 1st one we had called. We made an appointment for 12 noon. When we arrived, no one was up front & we had to ring a bell for service. The lady came up, didn't introduce herself or greet us, just stated she tried to call my cell (no record) to ask if we wanted to take the body home or have them dispose of it, because it's extra if they dispose of it. We asked what is the cost and she yells to a man in the back of the building, how much? He yells, what kind of dog? She yells, big mastiff, He yells, what's it weigh? I'm not sure. He finally comes up to where we are, no introduction & says we'll put her on the scale. He takes us to a large scale in a cramped hallway & asks me to come pay. The price goes up $130 more than I was told over the phone. He runs my card 3 or 4 times, but cant figure out the credit card machine. He said they'd had problems all morning, so I have to write a check for $230. I wish we had taken Lola & left. However, I walked back to the scale in the hallway expecting to be moved to an exam room, but he decided to perform the procedure there in this cramped hallway, on the scale. He shaves her left front leg and tries to inject her with the needle, but cant find a vein. He actually BENT the needle on my poor Lola! She winced and leaned toward us to get away from him, but he pulled her back saying he'd give her a sedative to calm her nerves. It seemed the sedative was actually so we wouldn't realize how much he was hurting our dog. He gave her the sedative, shaved her other front leg, changed out the needle & starting digging in her right front leg. It took a couple minutes to administer it all. We were crying, no tissues to be found, not a single word of consolation. The vet leaves & returns with a black plastic bag & tells us to help him put her in it & drag her to the back. That's when I finally spoke up. I asked him, ARE YOU SERIOUS??? You are telling me that WE are supposed to put Lola in a trash bag & carry her for you, like garbage??? What did we pay the extra $130 for??? No apology, no concern, the vet simply said, Its not a trash bag & asked me to go outside so my husband could help him. He made our heartbreaking experience even more devastating with his unprofessional & uncaring demeanor. I want to share my experience to save someone else from ever making the mistake of using this heartless veterinarian.
We use Dr Swanson for almost all of our dog's needs. He has always been very helpful and kind to our animals. He was even willing to open his office at 8:30 on a Friday night so that we could get a vaccination which we needed so we could get on a plane the next morning. The office is old and he looks like he does not have a lot of clients, but he treats our dogs very well and has prices that are reasonable.
Best vet prices I have ever received.Dr.Swanson is awesome.Love it.
Thank you for taking care of my little Beanie
The Dr. Was very rude to me . We inherited our dog from my boyfriends father after he passed away. We know he always kept him up to date on all of him shots . But the Dr. Asked when he had his last shots so I told him I'm not to sure but I know he always kept his shots up to date . He then said well I'll just assume he hasn't had any ( very rudely) he asked that same question several times and every time his response got worse! He said that's horrible, it's uncalled for, and pathetic! And when he was getting a stool sample from our dog he started to raise his voice with me to keep him still! I was trying my best but when you stick something up a dogs rear end what do you expect? I would not recommended him to anyone nor would I ever go back there!
