I found the cheese board and the short ribs really really good. Price is reasonable. Very large draft beer selection. Definitely a good choice.
First things First. the staff was absolutely wonderful, like beyond amazing. however the food was pretty sub-par. myself and a friend were visiting DC on a vacation and were recommended to head to the restaurant for dinner from a local. we ordered two different pasta dishes and a cheese and meat board for an app. cheese board was decent although nothing to write home about but the pasta was pretty terrible. it was over cooked and bland. the whole meal plus two beers (more on that below) was just under $100 dollars. the meal wasn't worth more than $30. don't bother going unless you just want to say hi to the staff. also as a note its so loud in the restaurant that you nearly have to yell to talk to people right in-front of you.
PS- we come from Michigan. Jolly Pumpkin brewery is probably one of Michigan's least interesting breweries. its not special, please don't pretend like it is. It doesn't represent Michigan well as a leader in craft beer.
Had a fantastic experience here. Went for dinner for my wedding anniversary (mentioned this in the open table reservation) and we were not disappointed. We were seated in a quiet, more intimate part of the restaurant, and our server offered us complimentary glasses of champaign to celebrate. Everything we ordered was spot on. Our waiter was perfectly attentive and had great beer recommendations. Between the great food and excellent service, it was a perfect anniversary date night.
I checked this place out at restaurant week. The food was average. Good value for the price. My beef with it was the service.
Instead of listening and working with us, we were given instructions, the guy was not as cordial as you expect from a restaurant staff.
I would come back, but I would hope I get a different experience.
One of the better brunches I've had in DC. Great food and the cocktails were great. Maybe the best bloody I've ever had. Spicy, rich and bold. Was delicious.
I was blown away by the beer selection here. Absolutely tremendous. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and kept bringing us beer tasters to make sure we got the perfect pairing with our food! We got the porterhouse special, and a beer that tasted like smoked bacon! Everything on the menu looked delicious. Can't wait to go back!
Food is on point. I ordered pasta carbonara and it was creamy, cheesy, and pasta was cooked perfectly. Tater tots are gigantic! Super fluffy, and one order can feed 1-2 people. Brunch cocktails are a bit weak. The 'Punch Below the Beltway' with gin, pomegranate and triple sec was too sweet, and the 'Catch Me Outside' had rum, pineapple and ginger beer, but all you could taste was ginger beer. Also, the mood lighting was taken to the extreme here. Dim lights are set the mood for date night or after-dinner drinks, but it's strange in the middle of the day.
Great food and staff. Adorable assistant waitstaff brought out unexpected appetizers with bright fresh flavors. Nicely adorned petite filet and fantastically dressed mushroom sauté. Nice Gluten free menu selections, bread substitutions, and accompanying beer options!
With all the new and shiny places, it's easy to forget about a neighborhood classic like Birch & Barley. We enjoyed the wine, a surprise amuse bouche, delicious bread (bonus for bringing our non-gluten friend gluten-free bread!), good gnocchi (too much melted cheese distracted from the true star of the dish), a solid burger (with fries that that weren't our faves) and a salmon dish that satisfied the whole 30 diet needs of a fellow diner. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Pro tip: try a tasting of a fruity beer for dessert!
The food is cool. Chicken and waffle sandwich is good, but steak and tot hash is just OK, a Sunday healthy option. The brunch donuts are a little dry for my taste, not very moist. Bloody Marys are cool, but I've had better, but that sweater weather was delicious. Service child have been better. We asked for syrup, coffee, and to cook the eggs harder, and the waitress asked that we"remind" her of our request. Pretty much we should do her job for her.
Came here for a late dinner after a long happy hour. We came in within 30 minutes of closing which I felt bad about but none of the staff mentioned it. We were quickly served two free appetizers before our meal came out in ~10 minutes. Food was spectacular! Great lighting, great beer selection, will be back!
Top notch! Food was excellent and the beer menu was extensive. I am a big beer nut and they had beers I never heard of. We were recommended to this place and it was our first stop after checking into our hotel. Our waitress Emma was not only delightful but helpful in picking out beers to go with our food. This will be a must anytime we come back.
