Great location, great opportunity but poor execution and poor service.
I was disappointed for our first visit. If it wasn't for the beer I would have been irritated. When we arrived we were quickly taken to our table but our greeter was not upbeat nor welcoming. We then sat for over 10 minutes without being acknowledged. Finally someone came over and said they will be with us in a minute. Five minutes later a different server came over and took our drink order and apologized because a server was late due to road conditions. Side note - not my problem, it's winter and you should have left earlier for your shift and finally aren't you there to make money so why wouldn't a server want to wait on us regardless of who's table it was supposed to be? We finally recieved our drinks after being there for 20 minutes. The server who was supposed to be waiting on us finally arrived and took our order. I won't name drop but she didn't write anything down. My wife ordered her burger without onion and it came out with a mound of onions. We reviewed the menu online prior and never decided to go in because the flavors it portrayed, although everything sounded great on the menu, most of it just didn't appeal to me. I ordered the pizza (pepperoni). Out of all 4 of our items we ordered with our group, the feedback was the same - bland food that wasn't executed properly - whether it was not fresh, not cooked right, not ordered correctly from the server, there are many variables but definitely not as flavorful as the menu stated. Aside from the food, the service wasn't as I expected. Beards has a beautiful space but lacks in hospitality. The only positive thing was they said they pooled/shared tips. It is a good thing because if I didn't know that the server wouldn't have received a tip. She stopped over at our table a minimal time and was not friendly, helpful or smiling.
If Beards is listening, please implement some training classes for your front of house staff. You need to really capture you customers in a way for them so they feel welcomed. Smiles are free and there needs to be a little more exictement. We don't need to hear about your staffs problems or why they were late. It was hard to pick out who worked there. Rock out some cool Beards shirts so we know who is working. It's also free advertising for you. Please help your staff get to a level of service that is a reflection of your hard work that goes into your beer.
Thank you and I hope this feedback helps.
Wow. Great food!! I got a salad that was a special and it was fantastic.well balanced between sweet, tangy, smoky, and bitter. My husband said his pho was amazing. We also got a flight and a few full pours. Enjoyed the beers as well. The atmosphere was really nice, with live music and board games to play. The waitress did not keep offering things, but did respond to our needs. A great experience!
We were told there would be a 25 minute wait to be seated which was fine. We submitted our name and phone number and were told we would be receive a text message when our table was ready. After 35 minutes we walked back to Beards after shopping around and inquired about our table. The hostess looked us up by phone number and said the system was showing we had already been seated. I kindly said that was fine and we would still like to dine. She said she put us on the list. I then sat for almost ten minutes watching tables walk in and get seated right away. Another table of the same number I was waiting for walked in and said they hadn't received a text message but had waited longer than they were told the wait would be. They were sat right away. When I inquired about being seated, the host stared at me blankly and acted like I was making a scene to be seated and that it was my mistake that I missed my text message. I can't even review the food because we left after waiting 45 minutes. I would not have been angry had the hostess recognized the miscommunication and mistake of the system. Instead she acted like I was being a brat after getting frustrated that other people were walking in and being seated right away after I had been on the waitlist for 45 minutes.
Disappointing and embarrassing. My four guests and I were seated at a booth by the windows that was swarming with dozens of flies. This should have been our cue to dine elsewhere. We sat for 15 minutes before being approached by our server. She did not introduce herself and since we had been provided only one beer menu for five people, not everyone was ready to order. We should have been served water at this point, but were not. Instead we waited for her to return to take our drink orders while shooing flies away. When we received our drinks, we also got an order of wings as a starter. The still unnamed server didn't bring the blue cheese dressing or wet naps, or even napkins until someone at the table asked. We also had to ask to be served water, and this while being served beer. Not much beer though, as we were offered only two rounds in the two hours we were there. We were never asked how we were doing or if we needed anything by our server. The host failed to ask about our dining experience as well. Our server didn't bother to inform us of dinner specials, dessert, or any other specials that may have been offered. We had to flag her down every time we needed anything and we didn't even know her name. She also never smiled or made eye contact with anyone at our table. I found that our servers name was Ashley after receiving the bill. Ashley was given a very generous, but undeserved 20% gratuity. Needless to say, the service was abysmal, and there didn't appear to be any leadership in the dining room at all. I had the wild mushroom pizza which was scantly garnished with paper thin mushroom slices and the caramelized onions where so thinly sliced and sparsely applied that they where not discernable. Too much cheese on the pizza too, and that's not a good thing. I'm embarrassed in front of my guests here from Tampa to escape Irma. Too bad their last meal in Northern Michigan was an abomination. Very sad. These guys should stick to what they know, brewing decent beer, and growing facial hair.
I love Beards new location. I went there with my wife, three kids, and my sister in law. Everybody loved the food. My wife and I split a beer sampler. All in all it was a great experience but it would have been nice if the service was a little faster as sometimes waiting with kids can be tough. The views from the second level were amazing and I can't wait for them to finish the outside patio and on site brewing.
During a family vacation 16 of us rode 20 miles on our bikes and stopped for beers and snacks at Beards. They quickly accommodated us and our waitress was great (and had a super cool tattoo, ha!). My fiancé and I shared the meat/cheese board which was great, others had wings and the chips/dips which were also very good. The beers were great (my favorite was a rhubarb flavored beer). The space is new, clean, and cute. They also have a little gift shop with fun gifts. We even decided to go back again to have more drinks later in our vacation.
Good selection of beers. Good food. Good view. Bad service. Waited 55 minutes for a simple food order for two. Had to ask for a status three times. No one pro-actively approached us about the delay. They recently opened this location and we will certainly give them another try.
The new Beards location is incredible. My girlfriend and I had a delicious meal (I had the pizza) and we each had a couple beers. I recommend the "Owlmadillo" or "Tree Blood". The prices were reasonable for how good the food was. Best of all, the view over Little Traverse Bay was stunning. We'll be back. As a Petoskey resident, this is probably my new favorite place to go with friends.
One of the worst experiences at an establishment I have had! Tried to purchase a mug for a gift that was clearly displayed with at least dozen others with a sign for $35. When it was rung up along with our beers it came up at $40. At first we were told it was a mistake, and the waitress said they would make the correction. Then she came back and said someone put the sign up wrong and it is clearly in the system for $40. After repeated conversation we asked for a manager who also indicated the sign was wrong & the system was right so we would have to pay $40 for the mug. He indicated he knew it was illegal since the sign clearly stated they were $35 but there was nothing he could do about it. We tried to rectify for asking for five dollars off the bill to which he replied "$5 off of what"? I pointed out that there were two 5 ounce beers at $2.25 each and $4.50 would be close enough but he said he couldn't do that either. I guess for five dollars it was more important for them to make the money and not worry about throwing away their reputation and customers. Such a shame because it was a very cool mug but it got to the point where it was a principal and we didn't want to give our money to an establishment the treats the very people that make them successful or not that way. I know for certain we won't be coming back!
New Beards is AMAZING!!! It's opening weekend and it's packed. A testimony to the great reputation they gave built. I love having so many beers on tap, all of my favorites. Try Grizzly adams. The food was phenomenal and the space is just perfect. Cannot wait for lots of live music this summer and the outdoor seating. This is my top recommendation for all friends. Come for a drink, stay for dinner and more beer!
One of my favorite places in Northern Michigan! One of the best breweries in MI. Great atmosphere and great beers. Low key. Board games. Etc.
