I'm like
WOW!! I got my hair cut and highlighted at Andrea'a Salon yesterday and once again, I am soooo pleased with the outcome! I look so fresh and young (I am 50 :)), Andrea has the touch!!! Seriously though, every where I go, people stop me all the time and ask where I got my hair cut and where I get it colored. I just recently went to a health convention (I am a chiropractor) and I think 50 people at least complimented me on my hair over that weekend. Andrea makes me feel important whenever I sit in her chair. She takes her time and just has fun! I trust her to give me the best look I can ever have. I tell everyone about her and her salon (so easy to get to, by Apple Annies on South College, adjacent to Dick's Sporting Goods). You HAVE to try her! You will be so glad you did.
I wanted to love this place so badly, but it was my worst hair experience.
First: I asked for highlights and was told I needed to do ombre instead (I do not like ombre, but I trust professionals maybe this is my own fault).. ombre, Andrea said, would be the same price as highlighting ($40 as stated on the giant sign by the door which is also the price she quoted me over the phone which is also the price listed online). So, I figured I'd try ombre, if I hated it, I could cover the lightened hair with burgundy or something, no biggy since it was so cheap (see below concerning true price). I mentioned trimming my hair, she shrieked no and didn't allow me to discuss what kind of cut I was wanting whatsoever. I should have left the salon right then.
Next: Color time. She started teasing my hair in an unnaturally rough manor, globbing bleach on it, balling up tin foil over it. (damaging hair before applying damaging chemicals not sure how I feel about this, but again, I'm not the professional). This painful (to feel and watch) routine happened WAY too fast. I was thrown under the dryer while she let me know she was going to give another client a brazillian that client's downstairs is none of my business, but, again, I smiled and continued.
Next: Time to rinse. After deciding that the blonde was "caramel enough" (who decided what color we were going for, I honestly don't know because I was never given the opportunity to voice my opinion) I was shampooed which apparently here means having your head violently shaken until all of the chemicals fall out.
Next: Blow dry.. Here we go, this is the good part. It started SNOWING in the salon! The snow being my hair, of course. That's right, my hair was FRIED and started breaking off and blowing all around. She tried convincing me (or her?) that this is normal. Okay. She was having to pull globs of my hair out of her brush, too since anything that touched it broke it at this point. Scissors then touched my hair, but I would definitely not call it a hair cut.
Finally: Time to pay! Here I am, still smiling, keeping my cool, trying to remember that this is hair and it will grow back. Time for my $40 bill, right? WRONG. HELLO $90 CHARGE! The advertised price is for one scoop of bleach, so I guess guys can have their hair done for $40. She started racking up the charges every time she added more product (which I get but I was 100% uninformed about this, I was told it would be $40 over and over and over). She had the nerve to point out the "tip" line as I paid more than twice what I had planned to spend.
Currently: My hair that once hit the middle of my back now sits above my shoulders because my hair was SO ruined that I couldn't even run a brush through the bleached parts. I'll have to go back (obviously not to Andrea's) and get MORE cut off once it grows out some more because you can still see the ruined strands. The hair won't hold darker color, conditioners/oils don't help, it can't take heat it doesn't even feel like hair. It's disgusting and I'm embarrassed. It also hurt my feelings to spend that much money on poor service and quality. That's no way to treat clients.
Rant over.
