Great cabin rentals
We booked Kelsey's Cabin in the Woods for 7/3-7/7/13. The reservation folks at All Star were very helpful, especially in explaining how to find the cabin (which made a big difference since we arrived after dark). The cabin was clean and well stocked with just about anything you can think of for a home. Really liked that there was a bedroom with a queen bed on each floor, as well as two twin beds in the loft. The decor is appropriate - I liked the simplicity and loved all the wood work. The beds were very comfortable, and it was great to have all linens provided. We brought paper products, but it was nice to arrive and see some toilet paper in the bathrooms upon arrival. Huge plus to have a fridge with an ice maker - and it was full size and more than suited our needs! We loved the front porch, and it was great to have a grill to use. The area is secluded and quiet, yet close enough to Luray to visit the caverns, grab something at a grocery store, or explore Main Street. A few board games and cards were provided, which was a nice touch. Very limited DVDs - mostly for young kids (but we didn't turn on the TV till the last night anyway and just rented a Red Box).
The only missing kitchen items (for me) were wooden spoons and a veggie peeler (I just grabbed some at Wal-mart). It was great to be able to bring our dog, though he did not like the gravel areas of the property. I was a little surprised by the tall weeds right next to the cabin, but my husband reminded me we were in the woods :-). Our 15 year old and his friend were a little bored after a day or so - some additional outdoor type games (such as a horse shoe pit and/or a corn hole set) would be a great addition. The check out instructions from All Star were great - but there were also instructions from the owners on the fridge that differed and were somewhat confusing (they asked for certain breakers to be turned off, but the breakers were not labeled with those items).
We were a little put off by the requests for a tip for the housekeeper. We paid close to $200 a night by the time tax, pet fees, admin fees, and insurance was added to the base of $150 a night. The instructions were to leave the cabin as we found it or we could be "charged $100". So we made sure it was clean and tidy. The housekeeper didn't have a whole lot to do to get the place ready for the next renters. Now, if someone came each day like a hotel - sure, I would tip - but not when I am responsible to clean during the entire stay. (We have stayed at other vacation homes with the same "leave it as you found it" rule and were not asked to tip the housekeeper.)
Overall, we had a very lovely stay, and I would definitely recommend this cabin, as well as All Star Lodging.
