  This is our #1 go-to spot in Chicago. The classic beef or the chicken chipotle sandwich with fries. Absolutely amazing. We don't even stop at any other locations. I've been eating here since it was at its former location. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. It's not a perfect day Until you have Al's #1 Italian Beef.

  After years of going to same popular tourist place for Beef Sandwiches, decided to switch it up and come to Al's #1. So glad decided to come here. The place wasn't busy at all, was able to walk right up to the counter, not feel rushed, and place my order. Person at the register was friendly and helpful. The menu is very simple with the obvious focus on beef sandwiches, but also having hot dogs, sausage, burgers, and chicken.
  
  They have the usual options with a beef sandwich of dry, wet, and dipped, cheese, and peppers. I ordered mine wet with peppers. Also, ordered a Chicago Dog for the side. Service was very quick and my order was ready within 5 minutes. The wet sandwich had the right amount of gravy and not too close to a dipped sandwich. The beef was amazingly juicy and flavorful. Peppers added the right amount flavor and heat without being overwhelming. Chicago Dog was made just right and presented nicely. I may have found my new place to come for a Beef Sandwich when visiting Chicago again.

  I was, surprisingly, a little disappointed. I've had many Italian Beefs over the years and have been hearing about Al's for years so we made sure we finally stopped there before heading back to Central IL yesterday. I ordered one regular with sweet peppers thinking I could snatch a few hot peppers from my husband's beef with both hot and sweet. That was kind of my first disappointment when we barely found any on his. Usually there is an over abundance of them on beef sandwiches (IMO). I can't say I really got a taste of them to even judge, but the sweet peppers weren't cooked very well either. I, also, thought the entire sandwich had an usual flavor that I can't quite put my finger on. It was slightly sweet or something. I'd give them a second try if I was in Chicago often because my husband didn't complain, but we only get there a few times a year. My adult son thought the meat was a little dry and crumbly.

  Best Italian beef sandwich in Chicago! Or so I've been told (I'm from California). It was my first time having one and wow it was amazing!
  
  I got a regular Italian beef with hot peppers, dipped. I normally hate soggy sandwiches but not this time!
  
  Highly recommend!

  The workers we dealt with were super friendly, and this place really hit the spot after spending some time out on the town. The beef was super tender and practically felt like it was melting away. The hot dogs we got were great too. It may not be fancy food, but it's definitely good food.
