Always pleased with Aksum. It's my go-to place to take guest visiting from out of town for brunch or dinner - charming atmosphere, great food and byob is a huge plus (liquor store is only a few blocks west on Baltimore Ave). The brussel sprouts are one of my favorite things on the menu, and the stuffed eggplant is also very flavorful.

Aksum is one of the gems of West Philly. Their brunch and dinner menus both offer a wide array of exquisite dishes for a variety of tastes. It warrants multiple visits to try the entire menu.

Of particular note is the almond-encrusted french toast. I have never had better french toast, anywhere - not the banana foster stuffed version at Sabrina's, or anywhere. It's simply perfect, with a light crunch and sweetness as you bite into it, served with whipped cream and fruit.

Fantastic experience. Our server, the owner's niece, was so kind and accommodating. I've been extremely sick recently and there are a lot of restrictions on my current diet, but our requests were honored so graciously. Every bite of food was heavenly, and the dishes themselves were beautiful. I will definitely be back, and I recommend this restaurant to everyone.

I went with a friend on a Monday evening and it was mostly empty. That was fine because apparently it is very popular and usually busy. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I plan to eat there again.

The food is amazing. They had amazing options for someone who doesn't eat gluten or dairy.

What a fantastic local spot! I've been coming here for the last three years and have never had a bad experience. The staff is attentive, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is relaxed. This is a favorite brunch spot, but get there early or make reservations because it will fill up quickly! The Moroccan eggs are great, the spicy ground meat adds a nice kick to the usual eggs and potatoes breakfast. The Moroccan chicken and waffles is a fun twist and the fig, date, and apricot sauces really add to the flavor of the dish. I'm looking forward to coming back again and again!

Great little restaurant with outdoor seating with very efficient service. The windows are opened during the warm months thus creating a very airy atmosphere inside. It's a BYOB so don't forget to bring your favorite wine. Only downside was the number of flies that constantly harassed us during our meal.

Very nice place. Also it's BYOB and the food is delicious. Only thing I suggest is making reservations because it is very popular for a local establishment.

The food here was great only complaint that I had was the two people that I went with both ordered tapas and I ordered an entree. Their food was brought out first, but my entree didn't arrive until they were almost done eating little better communication between the wait staff and the kitchen staff would have solved that problem. otherwise the food was great and the service was fine

The atmosphere was very comfortable. Service is great. BYOB and last but not least the food is awesome. After the first day I went back again on a Friday night, whcih was way more crowded but worth it. I will be returning for brunch!

The waitress was nice and find us a place even if we did not book. The food was great and we did not wait for it. We will definitely go back there soon.

Very good, quiet dining experience. We sat in front of the window on the bar side on a cold December evening, which made the older windows a bit breezy, but the secluded setting
was nearly perfect. The wait staff was prompt and friendly. The hummus tapas with warm pita bread very, very good. Our entrées, eggplant dish and jumbo shrimp dish, came quickly and was very tasty. The eggplant dish had a distinct Middle Eastern flavor, while my jumbo shrimp could have easily found its home on a Cajun restaurant menu. However, still delicious. I would definitely recommend this nice little spot when looking for a place to eat in Philadelphia.
