Never again. ..sure it's the holidays..but the patients ARE SICK AND IN PAIN and have been for hours. Waiting for pain control.isn't that a standard of care But..do these MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS realize we in the treatment rooms hear everything at the desk. And talking about a poor elderly patient Down the hall who's call light has been ringing for 38 min.(
SHE'S FROM A NSG HOME) and when you are told"We will reevaluate your pain shorty!!" 67 min is NOT shortly. How is this compassionate care. Thank GOD I was there and could be my niece's voice. We were told we had EVERYTHING we needed in an envelope to take to her Surgeon At Children's but not true.we had to go back to get the DISC which contained ALL the imaging .Shame on South Suburban...and BY THE WAY her surgeon was so surprised that what SS read was not what he saw..So sad THIS USED TO BE A GREAT PLACE..only shining light was a night
My dad was removed from life support and taken to their hospice floor. The nurses were wonderful. They took great care of my dad and were so helpful. They took a hundred phone calls a day from our family and never acted annoyed. I live in Oregon so after I left Chicago, the nurses would take a phone in and hold it up to his ear so that I could talk to him. They were the best.
This would be a much lower rating if it weren't for the transportation staff. I had a several day hospital stay and the folks who transported me around the hospital were delightful, warm and caring. Most of my nurses were also great, but there was one nurse who went 8 hours without checking on me, then at the end of her shift initialed that she had done so every 2 hours. Completely unethical.
Horrible service. We've been in ER for 4 hrs without anyone even popping in once in a while to see how we are. Staff is outside laughing and joking around. Very unprofessional. We had to keep pressing the button to call the nurse but they wouldn't come. On the 3rd try I had to get a hold of some one from outside our room. Don't kno if my wife is having a miscarriage of all the bleeding and clots coming out or what.
This is the last place you want to go to when needing medical care. The intake process is ridiculous. You see registration, wait, take vitals, wait, take few test, wait.. Finally see a doctor and wait some more.. My sister arrived there at 10:30 am and did not leave there until after 7pm. Please don't think they were working on her all this time. They weren't.. Under staffed. Don't bother.
I only been to this hospital once. My first time was two weeks ago. (May 4th.) I was surprisingly happy at their patient service. I checked the reviews before going into my appointment. I was terrified! I can only reviewed on my personal experience as a patient. I am so relieved. The wound clinic here is amazing!
The moment I walked in everyone from the reception/office staff to the wound care nurses were professional but personal at the same time. I appreciate that. There was a lot of paper work since it was my first time. So I was in there for over two hours aleast. I didn't mind because I enjoy talking to the nurses. Harriet is one of my favorite nurses. Dr. Romberg was the attending doctor that day. I recommend him. Angie was the receptionist or office clerk that day in Wounds. She helped me set up my appointments and guided me with directions for next time. So thank you!
Update. May 18.
After my second visit this week to the wound clinic. I am so grateful for Dr. Romberg. He helped me get a appointment faster than lightning! I tried for two weeks but it took him just one phone call. Like I previously stated everyone in the wound clinic is a delight. I had a different nurse this time but she was just as great. So thank you Sue. Kelly is also another great nurse. She is sweet and does a good job. I really appreciate her.
I also really appreciate Patricia. She is the sweetest person in that department. Everyone is sweet and great. Patricia is good at her job. She is professional but has that best friend personality. Nobody wants to be in a hospital for a few hours but I really enjoyed both times at this hospital.
Y'all are better then me, I hate hospitals, Doctors and nurses. But we do need to go somewhere. South Suburban Hospital is where my mom was. My niece, had a baby here. Years ago I use to be a sitter for Howl patients here. They were handicapped patients. I don't mind working in hospital, but I don't won't to be in one
It was terrible. I sat here and waited and nothing happened. A woman sit in front of me was puking up BLOOD. The staff did nothing but walk past her. I even complained to the staff telling them what was happening. They told me they would get a nurse. The nurse never came. This woman was in tears, stating that she though she was going to die where she was. I didn't understand how the staff could walk past with smiles on their faces when someone before them is moaning , crying in pain.
This was an awful experience!! Mothers daycare sent her here (without my approval as this is not her regular doctor). Doctor ordered and quickly completed unauthorized test for a woman that has severe dementia to the extreme where she does not even know her full name. Neither the Doctor or no one on staff called the caregiver who has POA to notify them of test including a CT scan. How is this proper protocol? To run test on someone who cannot speak! Mom is 93 and I am sure someone saw an opportunity to collect from her insurance. This is not ethical and someone should be held responsible. They do not deserve even 1 star!!

I have another appointment this week. So I will update.
Used to work here. Was horrible then and they are horrible now. As an employer, the most they want to see black men achieve is mediocre low paying jobs. Very low number of black males in non medical skilled positions (But that is Advocate Health as a whole; they are very discriminatory in hiring and promotion practices, particularly towards black men). Applied for several jobs I was qualified for, and was turned down repeatedly. I though I could get in and move up, but they don't want that. They want you sweeping, or mopping or a security guard, maybe a switchboard operator. But that's about it. My manager was a silent racist who would make the schedules favorable for her white staff, and put the black people on the worst shifts and days. She scheduled me for every holiday in November and December of 2016, and laughed like it was funny. I wonder if it was still funny to her when I quit on Christmas...
And as a care provider, they are worse. I have been here with my wife for 4 hours, and no doctor has seen her yet. They put her in a room, gave her some children's aspirin (that they'll overcharge for by more than 200%), and no doctor has shown his face. My wife is in pain, asked for something for it, the nurse said she would check with the doctor. That's been over an hour.
Maybe with this change in medical insurance laws, they won't be able to survive, and a good health care provider will take over this site. I sit here and hear the staff laughing and joking, but my wife still has not been given anything for her pain, and no doctor has walked in. Just a nurse... once.
The emergency doctor was pretty bad! He was not compassionate and had very poor bedside manners! He didn't seem sure on his knowledge job! Had to have him clarify what he was actually doing! Also, his attire needed to be cleaned up a little!! He was too Big of a guy to have on all black and have dirt clothes!
If I could give less than one star I would. My aunt is currently in the ER here, even though they told her last night they are admitting her and would get her some food. She is on CHEMO AND DIABETIC yet they don't seem to think it's important for her to have a meal. She doesn't even have a call button where she is in the ER, so when my mother left her last night expecting her to get a room and some food she had no way to tell anyone she was hungry and thirsty. My mom woke up to a million messages and had to go back up to the hospital to try to get it sorted (since they still never got her a room) yet was met with nothing but rudeness and being told that if they wanted food or drinks they'd have to go buy them. I had to take my newborn son to Advocate Christ just a few days ago and he was admitted and our experience was about the same. Advocate has really gone downhill and their facilities are filthy and unfriendly, I will never go back to one again. Not to mention that Advocate Christ gave my father MRSA when he went in for a simple shoulder surgery and nearly killed him. I had an amazing experience with University of Chicago hospital and, even though it's a long drive, I will be going there if I ever need anything again. I'm done with Advocate and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy!
