The construction of the mosque began in 1597. It was ordered by Sultana Safiye, who was the wife of Sultan Murad III and later Valide Sultan (Queen Mother) of Sultan Mehmed III, hence the original formal name "Valide Sultan Mosque".
The exterior of the mosque itself boasts 66 domes and semi domes in a pyramidal arrangement, as well as two minarets. The main dome measures 36 metres in height, and is supported by four flanking semi-domes. The dome plan of the New Mosque is based on the earlier Şehzade Mosque designed by Mimar Sinan, and on Sedefkar Mehmed Agha's Sultan Ahmed Mosque.

I always find it ironic that it is called the New Mosque, considering that it was built in the 17th century. For a city like Istanbul (with hundreds of years of history) there should be two kinds of “new”: new-new and Istanbul-new.

In the structure of the early Ottoman architecture, there is a atrium, ottoman hospital (darü'ş-şifa), Madrasah (moslem theological school) and Hammam (bathhouse). The new mosque has a very aesthetic appearance with the interior decorations of the blue, white, turquoise iznik tiled. In addition to these 17th-century tiles, you must also see the reliefs written in the verses.

The Yeni Cami, meaning New Mosque; built between 1660 and 1665, is an Ottoman imperial mosque located right next to the spices bazaar. It is situated on the Golden Horn, at the southern end of the Galata Bridge, and is one of the famous architectural landmarks of Istanbul.

The "New" Mosque was completed in the 17th century. The interior is absolutely stunning! Make sure to visit- you don't have to be Muslim to enter, but be respectful.

Drive the inner peace of whoever visits it. very cool and calm inside despite the busy and crowded surroundings. Meticulous interior design with the blend of colors and patterns that invites appreciation of art.

An incredibly beautiful mosque. Also, pro tip: the food vendors selling mussels in the square are to die for.
