There are so many things to see and read about. It made me feel that we are accomplishing so little in comparison to what our ancestors had done!

Advertised as 1 million artefacts but the main museum was half shut due to restoration works. The audio guide which costs 25 try extra is only valid in the orient and tile kiosk buildings. I was a little disappointed but still, what I did see was quite interesting. I would have liked the audio guide to have worked throughout the museum.

Nice little museum. Some parts don't have much in the way of curation or storytelling so it can be a bit dry, but the temporary exhibition on ancient Greece and Anatolia is good.

Note some of it is under renovation as of Aug 2020 so it isn't fully accessible.

A beautiful collcetion. Beautiful building. Beautiful location. The whole area is a complex of museums (the main museum, the museum of the ancient orient, the museum of tiles, outdoor collection) needs at least 3 hours to be finished. The good thing that there is ongoing renovations, also multilingual services.

We really a great time browsing through the hundreds of valuable exhibits. They are throughly priceless. I personally was impressed with mummies on display. Though it was gruesome, but it was no doubt looked really ancient. The sarcophagus carvings were so delicate and very detailed.

It's probably the best place I've visited in Istanbul. It's the less crowded and there's a lot of different historical things that you can see there, it depends on you. If you like seeing statues and taking pictures you'd probably need more than hour and a half there if no you can do it in 30 mins.

An outrageous abundance of spectacularly decorated and well-preserved stone carved sarcophaguses / (sarcophagi?) from throughout the first millennium BC. Many of the sarcophagi still have remnants of paint on them. The exhibit includes information about how the artifacts were discovered and transported, as well as maps and murals depicting scenes from the discovery, handling, and transport to Istanbul. The exhibit really made me feel like a part of the discovery team.

A must see for people who love ancient civilizations.
Three museums in the same place.
The first one takes you back to ancient Mesopotamia, Levant and Anatolia.
The second one collects the ancient Greek and Roman objects and also has a detailed explanation of their culture.
The last but not the least one is about the ceramics and porcelain of the Ottoman era.

Very fascinating museum to visit. More than half of it is under construction currently (March 2018) but you still you need a lot of time for this museum. If you like history, be prepared to google a lot because there is almost no explanation or information about objects displayed here.

Interesting, but it is really not necessary to go it's just the average archeology museum. That still does not make it bad, so if you like archeology and history, definetly visit it!😊😗

Excellent archaeological museum with lots of artifacts. You can easily spent the day here, because they have several buildings as part of this museum complex. I would not miss it.

The archeology museum is under renovation and most of the collection is not very interesting to view. The building is built in the 60’s and the third floor is worth viewing for the decor alone. A new museum is being created and the plans look amazing. It is close to the blue mosque and Topkapi so if you have a museum card stop in for a quick visit. There is a tile mosque museum in the same complex that is rather nice to see.

nice place to go. but so much repair jobs going in the territory that some of the inventories are hardly accessible. you shouldnt keep its visit at the same day with Hagia Sophia and Topkapi museum as you will get very tired for it. there are very ancient stuff which you have to see if you are in Istanbul more than 4 days. Ĺocation is great as it is on Gulhane tram station.

Very pleased with the new exhibit of the Yenikapı Ships and the replica. I had only just been reading about it leading up to our visit. Plenty of other stuff but you need several trips - Museumcard is a godsend.

One of the city's most popular tourist attractions, what you should know before visit it:

- ‎It is a complex that included: Museum of Ancient Orient, Tiled Pavilion Museum and Archaeology Museum.
- ‎It is included in Museum Pass. Single ticket is 20 liras.
- ‎Time fly here, you could spend a entire day enjoying and marvel with its collections.
- Go early and take your time.
- ‎Important pieces: Alexander Sarcophagus, Ishtar Gate of Babylon, statue of an Ephebos, some statues from the Temple of Zeus (Bergama), the Troy exhibit and much more.
- ‎Bring some snacks, there is a central yard with benchs where you can sit and eat.

I highly recommend visit this place

Interesting and rich collection of artefacts but could have been better presented. The audio guide does not add much to the written English signs. Reception staff were apathetic.

Must see if you are interested in sculpture or mythology. Pity it is not taken care of as it should be though. There are free concerts on Sunday mornings by the members of state symphony orchestra. Check out the concert schedule before going.

The museum building is very old itself and it is one of the most important museum in the world, in sense of Sumerian and Akadian period and later in Anatolia , Mesopotamia. The western robbers took most of them in Ottoman period but even the ones left is marvelous. I recommend it

Archeological Museums in Istanbul should definitely be in your list of things to see in Istanbul.
The museum is in Sultanahmet and is closed on Mondays. It is worth investing into a Museum Pass which includes three of the sites included in the museum grounds. My favourite is the museum of Ancient Orient and the Tiled Kiosk.

Istanbul (formerly Constantinople and Byzantium) has been at historical crossroads for many millennia, and this museum has artifacts from all of this time, most complimented with detailed explanations of their significance. You would have to spend an entire day or more here to absorb its full worth. If you are in the Sultan Ahmet area of Istanbul, this is a great place to spend a day.

Great museum with allot of interesting artifacts and interpretations of the history of Istanbul, Turkey, and the larger region. When I visited the building was being remodeled so access was weird and not signed well. However, there was still allot to see and there was good information. Some displays could use better explanations. I recommend seeing this museum. Especially if you have an interest in the archaeology of the area.
