Definitely worth a visit. It's a good time and well designed but there are definitely better Zoos that have more space for the animals. Seems like a great place for kids though, lots of great interaction for them. Parking is a bit of a nightmare though so I recommend busing or going early.

Smaller zoo, so quite rightly have a focus on smaller animals so they have adequate facilities. Different animals to Auckland Zoo so very much so worth seeing. Was with a toddler and one of the keepers allowed him to interact with the farm animals, look for chicken eggs, pat the pigs and bunnies. Made his day and ours. One of the best days out in Wellington. Got to put his face up to baboons, tigers and lions. Would definitely go again. The best kiwi house I've been to. It's open air instead of looking through glass so you can actually see them.

This seems to be a very conscientious zoo. They care about the animals and understand the value of informing the public to further that objective. Lots of "keeper talks" which are interesting and informative. The Close Encounters are amazing! We did the red panda and they crawled right up on our laps. You can also pet the kangaroos (as a part of general admission).

Ha e done the cheetah encounter and the red panda encounter. Both were incredible once in a life time experiences. Not a lot of zoos do this, but it was well worth the price. Knowledgable keepers who were clearly engaged with the animals.

Lovely place to spend the afternoon! From the first interaction with the staff to the last, professional, helpful, happy bunch of people :-)
Wonderful conservation of some (all) pretty special animals, and the training hospital is a wonderful thing (to view & to have)
Well done to the staff at Wellington zoo, awesome job & we will be back again :-)

This zoo is awesome. There are three red pandas there. You can also make an appointment and meet animals personally. Some of animals walk free in the zoo ground so you have an opportunity to meet and touch wallabies and an ostrich.

A great zoo with some fantastic animals. Sadly went at the wrong time and it was full of small children on play centre visits, so was quite noisy. Even so enjoyed my time there with my family.

The red pandas are a particular favourite and have a great viewing area.

It is a really nice Zoo with great staff that love the animals. That said, it is still a zoo. And that means it has visitors that shout and mock and disrupt the animals. In the end I feel very sorry for the caged animals, but at least they are under good care.

Great zoo one only a bus ride from the city. A good selection of animals. Theres also a Australia section where some animals roam free. Enjoyed my day there and would visit again.

We had a fantastic morning at the zoo and found the feeding times very informative. Plus, it's a fantastic place to take your kids - there were tons of playground areas and the entire place is pram friendly. Although, bring your walking shoes because it's on the side of a hill!

Wellington Zoo has come a long way in the last 10 years, the enclosures are large and clean and the animals well cared for. It's a great place to visit for a family outing the entrance fee is high but you can tell that the zoo is well cared for. The interactive educational bits all around the zoo are a great way to get the kids involved. There is information everywhere about the animals the zoo and the environment. Great day out.

Wellington zoo is a great place for both kids and adults. There are various talks and feeding activity which is fun as well as informative. You can even choose one of the up close programs to get close to a cheetah or lion, if you fancy it. Great place for a family picnic the whole day or a quick trip for couple of hours. It is surely one of the best little zoo in the world.

I grew up in Wellington, so have been visiting the zoo off and on for numerous years. It's been about eight years since my last visit and I've got to say I'm blown away. The entire experience was amazing, from the welcoming staff and the gates, to the great facilities they're provided for the animals (no more of those horrible concrete cages I remember as a child). Highly recommend the animal talks - The keepers are very friendly and full of knowledge that they love to share.

Even if you've been countless of times in the past, if you haven't been in the past ten or so years I'd highly recommend finding an excuse to revisit this amazing place.
