Standard facilities. Clean enough but not spotless. Additional charges for certain facilities though which is always a pain. Reception closes very early though and open relatively late too.
Nowhere near the usual Top 10 standard, and the dearest of our 4 x Top 10 trip . We are two people , but booked only a few days ahead so accepted that there was only a three-bed unit, with sc kitchen available for approx $140 per night. On arrival , reception was grim and not at all helpful, and we found our front door mat was covered in duck poop, the carpet was stained quite noticeably and the dishcloth so grey I would hesitate to use it as a floor rag. We figured we could work around this with this, and the first night was quite peaceful. On the second evening however, management booked a family group of 14 tourists into the two units beside us, despite many vacancies amongst the cabins. Whilst the adults cooked up pungent curries at 11pm, with a lot of pot banging and door slamming etc, their young children shrieked and squealed at out door. We telephoned management but our three calls went to answerphone. At 11.30 I asked the family to quieten down and this happened sometime after midnight. At 6.30 am there was a repeat performance. . I then hopped in the shower to find no hot water. The cleaning girl suggested I use the communal showers. There were two in the block - one in use at the time. The pressure in my shower was barely enough to wet me. We expected some response to our phone messages of the night before, or an explanation/apology for the hot water situation, but heard from no-one. When we checked out our door mat was still covered in duck poop. ( Please keep the ducks, but upskill your cleaners.) We would not recommend. And no, we will not visit again.
Further to your reply , just to let you know that that was me sitting less than 2 metres from you as you made your phone call to the electrician, re the hot water situation. You made it from your cell phone in the doorway of the unit next to ours - the one which was in use as a cleaning/storeroom. It must've been pretty obvious to you that we had not checked out. I was sitting there and our car had all doors open. There had been no lovely people living in that cleaning unit to comment ( as you have stated ) about the hot water situation . ( The Indian family of 14 were next door on the other side. ) You saw me as you walked in there and I waited for you to end your phone call and come to talk to me about the phone messages but you strode off quickly in the opposite direction without looking my way at all. Really, your service was extremely poor and you need to address that, rather than make excuses. You need to up your game to meet the standard of every other Top 10 we have stayed in. ( For less $$$$s) You did not address the stained carpet , or the filthy dish cloth, or the abysmal water pressure in the communal shower, but talked about warning us to "be wary". Really? Wary of what?
Nice place to stay, but the sharing kitchen area must put extra window to ensure no smelly cooking
A great place to stay. Meets all our needs.
Clean kitchen and bathroom. We stay in a cabin. Just under 100 for three people. Very budget choice. Recommend for families and friends.
I needed a place to camp for the night and did not have a res, but the gal in the office was very nice and hooked me up w/a nice tent site for $20NZ. The site was fine and though it was close to road, the noise was not bad in the night, in the morning however, you could hear the traffic. The bathrooms were clean and there was a hairdryer. They also had a TV lounge and wifi was available there. You could get up to 200MB per 24hrs free and pay for any additional. It was a nice, cheap stay for a night and with Lake Wanaka right across the street, a good location for the price!
Good place to spend the night during a roadtrip. Do your groceries before going there though, as there is no stores in walking distance
This place shouldn't be in the top 10 chain. I generally pay a bit more cause you get good facilities and a certain standard. This has been the exception, tent sites were horrible, gravel on a hill next to a busy road. Facilities were even worse, small and rundown. You even had to pay extra for the BBQ which has been free at ever other top 10! Note, the facilities near the motorhomes up the very top of the hill are a bit better.
After arriving I a) found out you can't get refunds and b) there are much nicer holiday parks nearby that are cheaper.
The only reason you should consider this place is if you can't book into another place, you can't find free camping and you can't drive to another town.
It's not too bad. By far better than some other top 10 places so far in my holiday so far! Biggest problem though with all so far is the WiFi is stupidly slow and pretty much unusable. The stove is quite dangerous as it can be switched off yet the elements are still on and hot. So the actual stove controls do who knows what and must be switched off at the wall. Bed was comfy. People complaining about the busy Rd, seriously that ain't busy! Go live beside a highway in brisbane if you want loud and busy. Camp ground is quite Sandy though and not a grass paradise. But still fairly good if you are used to aussie camp sites which are usually dirt anyway.
If you are camping I would advise against choosing this place to stay. We have stayed in 6 of the Top 10 campsites in NZ and this is by far the worst. The tent sites are all on a hill, so good luck if it rains, no grass just horrible sand and dirt. Usually you get 200mb of data free plus 500mb per day if your a member, here it's 100mb and 250mb extra for the entire stay! As another guest said it's right next to a noisy road so that's nice when camping.
