The nicest staff at any place I've been in NZ. The dorm on which I stayed was literally in a rainforest which was very cool and also very close to the sea. Clean, great service. A generally pleasant stay

Good retreat indeed. Calm, in the middle of the forest. Only nature sounds. Peaceful as wish.
It was comfy but a little cold with some hot water issue.

Beautiful quirky wooden building in true forest hideout style. Such a warm feeling to stay here. Beautiful wooden rooms. Seemed we have stepped back in bygone eras of wooden houses.
The only drawback was the bathroom being downstairs and being shared by a large no. Of families esp when full.
The kitchen was gud and we'll designed

Nice place to get close to nature but remember to bring your own body wash, shampoo and coffee. They only provide hand wash in the bathroom.

Really nice place tucked away in the forest, fantastic staff. Big kitchen, we stayed in the main building, cosy fireplace. Close to pancake rocks, the cave and the walk down to the ocean.

A quirky place this. We stayed in Te Nikau Lodge, a spacious but cosy 3 bed cabin with a decent sized communal area.

Nice place overall but the management moved us out of the room that I booked specifically, and into one which I had avoided specifically (the Koru room, which is just a shed and is loud and cold in the rain), without telling us. Pretty pissed off with that. The other rooms seem good, and The Hideaway, where we stayed for one night, was ace. The bush and the beach are pretty cool too.
