Such an amazing spot. Have seen a few negative reviews but honestly it's been fantastic. We're in a superior room, which is amazing, private and very nicely appointed. Really nice staff, great breakfast and nice but pricey dinners.

Had a lovely stop here after a rained off hike. Enjoyed some great coffee and muffins. Very friendly staff, especially a pretty young lady called Claire who went out of her way and organised a water taxi for us.

At the stated price for a standard room, go elsewhere!! The porter service from the boat is awesome and the warm greeting was appreciated, but from there it's all downhill. I guess if you're tenting or staying in huts you'd call this luxurious, but compare it to other accommodation providers at the same price and it doesn't measure up. How do they get away with being an "eco-lodge" when the power comes from generators? I could list a huge amount of negatives which far outweigh the positives, I can simply say, don't go there!! Reading another review which stated it was really a glorified back packers, I tend to agree. I won't ever be going back.

After a very uncomfortable stay in Feb. 2016 that I reviewed on TripAdvisor, the manager replied saying that they got better screens and fans for the Standard Rooms just after I left. (which is why, along with the decent food, I am not rating this 2 stars). The screens that were there were adequate; it's just that all of the screened openings were on one side. To get cross ventilation required opening what would have been a nice large window had it had a screen at all. In mid-summer, Abel Tasman has both bugs and humidity. So if they've just upgraded existing screens without adding screens where there have been none --it's not enough. If they added GOOD fans, that should improve the heat of the Standard rooms. But so would the common-sense practice of Housekeeping staff closing the curtains on rooms that get afternoon sun. And I'm not sure why a largish regional chain should just NOW be adding fans and screens, since half the summer season had already passed. My advice -- without seeing the supposed improvements -- is to pay the extra $120NZ (approx. $80US) per night for a Superior Room. They're in sort of odd-looking tin-clad buildings, but the interior photos look good. On the Room Description page of the website -- there is only an exterior picture of a Standard Room, for good reason -- fans and screens notwithstanding.
