  Tried to have a shower in the shared bathrooms, prior to checking out. One first floor bathroom had no working showers (this had clear warning signs) the other shared bathroom on the first floor, had no running hot water, so I could not shower before catching my flight. When I mentioned this to staff on checkout, the reaction was that I should've used the second floor showers. They also mentioned that there was a switch inside the first floor bathroom that controlled the hot water. There was a problem with people mistakenly turning the switch off. This begs the question that if it was a known problem, why no warning sign or cover had been installed to prevent the problem.
  
  Room had a curtain that was too thin to block out the streetlight outside.
  
  Place had character, but was in need of renovation and maintenance.
  
  There are better options in Christchurch.

  I stayed here for one night in a 3 bed dorm. The accommodation was good for what I needed but the overall feel of the place was very run down. The room wasn't very well set out and the walls didn't even go up to the ceiling which meant you could clearly hear people in all of the other rooms and in the kitchen next door.

  Clean. A lot of original interior (lift, urinals, plumbing, doors). Nice rustic feel. Lack of facilities is made up for by great staff and a large cheap pub downstairs.

  We really liked this place!! Friendly authentic Christchurch hotel! Nice size Bar with gaming/casino machines and pool table! Cool Rooftop balcony! Great location, easy to find with central bus station close by! Great price for New Zealand! Thankyou!!

  Good value for money. Very good location, but our room smelled pretty bad and I think our mattress was from the 70s. Staff was friendly and on site amenities good. Go for it if you're on a budget, but if you can afford to go to a nicer smelling hotel with better furnishings, do that.

  It's a decent hostel type place with clean sheets and a cool elevator. Awesome little roof top balcony. Didn't get to see the socializing aspect of it, but I only spent a night.
