  Bruce, on the top level, was a total delight.
  My friend and I went about an hour before closing so it was pretty quiet, and he came over to tell us about multiple different exhibits. He knows his stuff and is such a delight - sorry. Te Papa is cool but Bruce gets a 5/5 rating from me

  Absolutely beautiful food.. friendly service. One thing could have improved experience . We felt very rushed to leave as soon as we had finished, bar staff asked to clear all our table including water glasses as the dishwasher needed to go on!! It would have been nice to sit for a while to enjoy my friends company without feeling like a nuisance .

  Amazing family friendly place with something for everyone to enjoy. Nice cheerful people at the bag drop desk and what a wonderful service. I spent 4 hours at the museum before catching a flight and not having to lug my bag around made my visit so much more enjoyable.

  I have always enjoyed Te Papa in the past and the revamped nature section is awesome. However the cost of parking is excessive, the signage for the building (not the exhibits) is confusing and the building temperature was kept very low. The whole place had a very American feel. 1st floor instead of ground floor, air conditioning set cooler than necessary, and a generally more corporate feel than there has been in the past. There seemed to be fewer guides than I recalled on previous visits and I felt less welcomed to our museum in New Zealand and rather just a visitor to a museum anywhere.

  First trip to Te Papa for a few years. Great improvements made to cafe on ground floor. Modern menu, improved decor and great taste in food.
  We visited Level 2, 4 and 5.
  Level 2 the native species is much improved and has heaps of hands on displays. The earthquake house also updated which is great.

  A really great (mostly) free museum in a great part of town. Blocks from the backpackers and kept clean, inviting and plenty of space to wander and hang out. Really cool spot, went back many times during my 4 months in Wellington.
  
  They have a giant squid (dead) and an earthquake party room!
  
  What more could a human being want?!

  Brilliant museum, totally free. Amazing exhibits about gallipoli and the new zealand and Maori soldiers involved. Amazing over sized sculptures were the stand out feature. Other exhibits were very interesting too and the building itself is very well designed too. We also ate in the cafe there and it was both very good and very affordable. Overall we had a great visit

  I always enjoy our visits to Te Papa, the exhibitions are fantastic and they are always updating and changing them. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is always clean and tidy. Great for all ages. Only negative is that the eateries can be a little pricey but it's only a minor negative. We visit every time we go to Wellington and can't recommend it enough.

  I did not have enough time to see even half of this place. You need at least a half day.
  Everything is well signed. Easy to read descriptions. Friendly knowledgeable staff.

  One of the most beautiful museums I've ever visited, providing ample education, culture and fun. The exhibitions are diverse and fascinating (free to Aucklanders, almost $25 for other visitors) and the current special exhibitions are spectacular. It is worth the extra investment to watch the cultural Māori show, that uses music and dancing to explain some basics about ancestor migration and some basic traditions (around $25). Not to be missed experience - but beware, the museum is so large that history lovers will have trouble drinking in the culture and science in just one day.

  One of the best museums I've been too. It was free. We spent two hours and didn't see everything. Only left because we had an appointment. Will definitely be back to see the rest.

  Fantastic museum, well laid out, with plenty of interesting exhibits for both children and adults. I also appreciated the charging station in the coffee shop on the 4th floor and the free WiFi. The little island is probably my favorite part, but there are so many interesting things to see and do here. Also a great venue for conferences.

  What an amazing place. I had been warned of was something special by my family, but it didn't prepare me for this. Even the building/architecture is worth a visit, but it's the exhibits that are truly awesome.. We spent two hours here and could easily spent 6 (and would have if it hadn't closed for the evening).. The Gallipoli exhibition is something else and I will now compare all other museums to this standard.
  
  Don't leave this to the end of your day, visit Te Papa first when your legs are fresh and you can drop other things to make time to see as much as you can..

  Very interesting. Could have stayed longer. The exhibits are wonderful. A great educational facility for schools. Depicted the 1st World war in fine detail. Came away with tears in my eyes so very realistic. ..

  Lovely way to spend a couple of hours. Helps that it is free as well. Found that it lacked a bit in signposting where you should go. Without actually having a map of the place I don't know if you would be able to ensure you have seen all the exhibitions.
  Great experience with one staff member: pointed me towards the passports section because he thought I was Irish (definitely not) when I explained I am from Auckland he pointed me towards the exhibition on volcanoes. 🤔
  Definitely visit the Gallipoli exhibition. Very eye-opening.

  Love this place. Have been a number of times for personal and business reasons. Took a group of year 3 and 4 students here to view the bug lab exhibit. I was disappointed at how rude some of the staff were though and whilst I understand it was a stressful day (as it was very busy); a little curteousy and polite nature goes further with people. Overall a fantastic interactive museum that is great for all ages.

  Te Papa is amazing! This museum will take you on a journey through time teaching you about all things New Zealand. From the formation of the islands to its animal and human inhabitants, this museum is extensive. Don't miss the particularly moving and relevant refugee exhibit. Oh and it's free! If you are in Wellington plan for a full day at Te Papa. It's worth every minute.

  The Te Papa is a beautiful museum - Natural History, Science, and Cultural museum all in one. We went for the Maori section which helped fill in some of the gaps we had from the other museums and tours we had taken in New Zealand. I was particularly intrigued by the information they were giving about the navigation techniques used by the Polynesians at the time they arrived in New Zealand. There was an interesting section on the stories of the European families that immigrated to New Zealand and what was happening in their countries that made them leave. I also liked the area that identified some of the birds I had been seeing.
  There were several hands on sections for children that seemed very involving for the families using them.

  Te papa is one of my favorite places to go in wellington. Neatly arranged exhibits, beautiful explanations, creative, thought provoking and says a lot about your environment and other forces like culture which shapes you. We had been to the bugs show and was blown away by the attention to details, information and the interactive setup. Paradise for inquisitive, bug loving kids and adults. I had more picture but didn't add them because I want you to experience this great show. Go have fun!
