Lets start with the good, it was a clean hostel in a quiet location. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was really friendly and extremely helpfull. However, the hostel is overrun by kiwi-experience people. It's crowded every evening making the kitchen and livingroom hard to use. This was the only real downside, so al in al it is still a good place to spend a night or 2
Lovely location, nice communal area although rooms were very small! Not enough space for 4 backpacks in a 4 bed dorm
Perfect location for travellers to spend the nights on the lake. Lodges, tents, and parking lots are plenty and on the peak season are mostly fully booked. Shared showers and toilets are quite clean but on peak hours always busy and full, need to queue for a while. Shared kitchen is too small for many travellers especially in peak hours, also the air ventilation is poor. It's better to bring your own cooking stuffs than to use theirs. 2 fridges are available and you need to share with many other travellers. Other than these, this place is heaven, I love the tent very much, it's huge and the main bed is like king's size and very comfortable. There's electric heater inside the tent that you can use in case it's too cold. Very recommended for travellers.
Nice place to stay and a good place to see all the stars! Shower and bed are good. Also outdoor bbq
The room significantly smaller than other backpackers.
Location is horrible, too far to walk into town or anything really.
No free wifi and absolutely no phone reception as the place is too remote.
Slight expensive as a backpackers, paid $36 for a dorm bed when other is charging between 20 to 30.
The good thing about this place is that you can get a place when you dont book ahead. It is highly overrated.
Lovely stay. Was a bit run down, drawers missing ECT! Lovely views tho.
I stayed in a 4 bed dorm here. It was so small there was nowhere to hang my jacket or put my bag, I had to sleep with it in my bed. Very small rooms. There is not much nice character to the place - just very plain with lots of signs telling you what to do. No free internet. You have to make your own bed and change the sheets. Other guests were not very friendly. Most hostels I stay at are the opposite of all this and very nice and enjoyable. I was happy to leave here.
Hot water consistent run out every 2 minutes. Kitchen is small consider the with the number of people staying there. Wall are thin and can hear every noise in the corridor.
The only plus point it that it located 3 minute walk to the lake.
We were incredibly disappointed with our stay at lakeview hostel. The hostel is made up of different houses each with their own kitchen/living room. There appeared to be some nice rooms however we were put in the basement '4 bed dorm'. The room was very cold and damp when we arrived and there were 2 bunk beds and then just a mattress on the floor. There was mould growing all over the walls outside our room and he whole place was really damp, dark and dingy. Also wifi didn't reach our room or the kitchen/living area which was a bit annoying. We asked to move room and we're told by that they were fully booked, the guy at the desk (who was lovely by the way) said he understood that it's "not the best room" and that they were getting rid of it/renovating it soon. He said it was slightly cheaper than the nicer rooms . by $2. I've never written a bad review for a hostel, we are not fussy travellers and have stayed in some horrible places before, just not paid $31/night for them. If you're aware that the room is not up to standard, or significantly worse than the other rooms (which they were clearly aware of) at least charge a significant amount less - I'm sure loads of backpackers would be happy to stay for cheaper.
This is a nice place for backpackers. It is just in front of Lake Tekapo where you can enjoy its breathtaking view.
The most unique dorms we've ever stayed in. We slept in a 5 bed tent. Being late March it became quite cool in the evenings. Without extra charge we were each given 2 duvets, a blacket and a hot water bottle. It was the warmest I've ever slept in a tent.
The amneties and customer service was great.
We stayed in the motel. It was Very well maintained, and at a more quiet and private area. This place offers free laundry services which we are extremely thankful for. It is situated very near lake Tekapo town.
