Helpful staff. :)
Great location, iconic Kiwi caves, a bucket list must
Received a very friendly welcome. Room was nice, clean with good amenities. Feel relaxed and chilled out. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this accommodation. Reasonably priced too.
Good beds and bathrooms, the people are very kind. I loved this place!!
The rooms are old and the beds really need to be renewed. The common rooms are not cleaned.
With a few little tweaks these guys could live up to their price tag. I came here because I needed a place to sleep for a couple of days while sick. I got a bed in a room with only two beds and didn't have to share it. However, like every other NZ hostel they don't seem to have heard about sound proofing and with a kiwi experience bus turning up each night filled with loud twenty-somethings it wasn't easy to get a good sleep.
The cleaners failed to refill toilet paper and in spite of notifying management this was not fixed.
Wifi was only available in the reception area although I believe this is temporary.
Most dissapointing was the lack of proper recycling facilities. There was a rubbish bin and recycling for glass and plastic only. Nothing for paper, cardboard, or organic waste, which is really not acceptable in 2017.
Unlimited hotwater in the showers was great but nowhere to put soap or shampoo or a seat of any sort. It's these lack of basics that make me wonder if anyone in management actually bothers to put themselves in the position of guest in any of these establishments as the majority of customer service buisnesses in NZ are thoroughly underwhelming. As anyone who has put any effort into studying this area will tell you it is no longer enough to meet the customer's expectations; instead they must be exceeded if you are to stand out as exceptional.
Nice little hostel that's not too far from the Waitomo caves which is the primary attraction of this place. Beds are comfortable and the staff are warm and nice. Kitchen is well equipped.
Reviews below are, frankly, mostly ridiculously low. This is a fantastic hostel with great clean rooms, friendly staff and a really nice kitchen and lounge area. $35 NZ a night is top of the price range but in fairness for a 4 bed dorm anywhere that's about standard. Wifi is $5 for 24 hours but people need to get a grip, if you are in NZ you don't need to be on your phone 24/7, get out and see the country! As a note to the long review below, I am in room 14 as luck would have it and the mattresses have been replaced - now very comfy! Highly recommended to anyone, great place!
Nice friendly staff and good café.
Well it's OK but way to expensive 35$ for a 4 dorm room and not even wifi.
I stayed in a lot of Hostels in OZ and NZ before and for 35$ should you get a great hostel super clean, wifi and free breakfast!
I even got a 2 person room for myself for the price of a 4 person dorm but even for that I was quite expensive
