I felt nothing but support when admitted into this hospital.
Originally coming in under the Mental Health Act the staff worked tirelessly to help me get to a place where we would all be comfortable with me being taken off the Act and be a voluntary patient.
I believe I have very specific views on life and my 'illness' and for the most part they were understood and respected (with the change over in nurses, not all of them understand who you are from a few notes alone)
The staff were considerate, on my first night on the ward my partner was allowed to stay in my room with me - which goes a very long way. Also, there are quite a few characters in hospital but I was constantly being asked whether i felt safe, and comfortable..
Even as an outpatient I'm still receiving the help I need.
I think the nurses of this establishment need to be praised more for their hard work and general kind nature toward the patients and staff alike.
Staff have good intentions towards patients even if the inpatients feel otherwise. They are caring and always looking to work with patients best interest.
Staff here need to be more acknowledge for the hard work they do and the amount of stress and encounter they put up with on a daily basis.
The hospital needs a makeover, it is quite old. A new environment would boost the team's morale to continue providing specialised care to those acutely unwell. Also making patients feel comfortable.
Inpatient and outpatient Staff need to be looked after more and deserve much more. If there were limited to no nurses the community would be chaos.
Staff are caring and helpful. Buildings are a little old but the people are great. Accessible by bike, and has plenty of parking for cars.
Great hospital
Worst mental hospital
This mental hospital, likes to pretend they care about you, while they give you medication, that will make you destroy your life by yourself, while they sit there, without any theraputic methods to make you feel well on thier chairs and get paid. I have been trapt, in this city, in thier system, for 12 years, since I was 18 years old. I will not stand for their methods. Especially when pharmacutical treatment is not required.
They will insult you on your beliefs, without evidence whether you are right or wrong, they will baby talk and call you crazy manic or deluded. Which in my case pushes my buttons, and when my buttons are pushed I end up in seclusion for my verbal "abuse" which is just my non-violently deffending myself. They say my insight is poor. Yet I'm more artistic, intelligiant, and free than the staff there are, despite the fact, I can't travel, or get a job, or have a physically perfectly healthy adulthood from the start.
Did you know I was in a suclusion room in 2011 AND 2012 on CHRISTMAS DAY, for the WHOLE DAY and when I got out, I did not even know I missed Christmas?? It's on record, not a lie two years in a row? Yeah, it's sad.. that's a more positive story to share for me though.
I have had 25 admissions, mostly due to my refusal to take thier poisonus medications based on animal tranqs of which I am intollerant to, and experience every side effect in the book. ALL OF THEM, even black outs, heart attacks, sudden sharp pains in my brains.
The meds made me a mute, anti social, volotile, unhealthy, habitual. They will continue to praise themself on how well all thier patients are doing, even if they are making your suffering worse. They won't care unless you are sedated and controllable, and your thoughts are modable into thier little box heads.
I have recovered. And I have the evidence I need to get what I deserve for mis treatment by this system for 12 years. I will take the CDHB to court for physical health damages.
Thanks for reading.
