Great little cocktail bar. The couch in front of the fire is a great way to unwind from the day.

A REAL cocktail bar, like a private club, discrete entrance, quiet, sophisticated, sublime cocktails, relaxed and unhurried. Attentive service. It just needs Nina Simone at a pieno or Juli London on top of the pieno.

Cosy relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. It isn't cheap, however you are better off paying a couple extra dollars for quality.

The best speakeasy I have ever been to (and as a former barman I am quite critical). The sheer attention to detail when making cocktails (including shaving pith off an orange peel to avoid altering the taste, and choosing the best glass shape/type for each cocktail) is phenomenal and testament to the care taken to do things not just well, but great. Green card lamps, a comfy bar and soft seats and candlelight complete this little slice of cocktail heaven. Perfection.
A small bar though, so don't expect to just walk in at peak hour.response / report this review -

Best atmosphere for a cocktail bar in Wellington. A proper time warp experience. The staff n bar tenders basically read my mind and mixed me 3 different and amazing tequila drinks. A perfect party for soul mind and taste buds.

Best cocktail bar in the city. Don't bother with their menu, talk to the bartenders about what you like and they'll make sure you get something great!

Awesome cocktails, made with flair. Not exactly cheap, but there is quite a portion of spirits in the drinks, so you get what you pay for. Open till late, and they will even make you a toasted sandwich from the 'secret' menu

Coming from a pretty decent cocktail scene in San Francisco, the Hawthorne could easily go toe to toe with any of the great cocktail bars here. So so impressed with their creativity and innovation. We went for one pre dinner drink and couldn't resist ordering another round. Seriously great cocktails

Best Cocktails in town! Old school with a young crowd, classic but not pompous, smiley professional staff, very intimate and romantic. great for a date night for drinks before dinner, or the place you take your out of town visitors that you want to impress.

Very good atmosphere up on the second story hidden away. Lovely drink menu. I ordered a mojito but it was way too sweet to even drink. Everyone else enjoyed their drinks though.
