The fish of the day was excellent but half a Crayfish for more than 70NZD was definitely overpriced n overrated (disappointed by the taste). It was a VERY SMALL crayfish!! Putting the entire bowl in the plate took up the space on the plate itself and left no room for a more reasonable size crayfish. Clever but cunning. Staff were very nice though.

We visited. Even though most of the restaurant was empty, we were told that all tables were booked. We went across the road and had an awesome meal with amazing service at the Pier Hotel. All the while with an occasional view of the empty Green Dolphin. Thanks for the use of your carpark, the Pier Hotel was awesome! 5+ stars to the Pier Hotel!! You guys. . . . . not sure.

The service was less then average, the table is wobbly and we have to ask it to be fix for three times until someone does something, and we are not even pushy
crayfish is frozen to a point where the meat taste worst then deep frozen shrimp you get at the supermarket and overboil it
The garlic bread taste too oily and gross, too much sause and oil soaked into the bread that made it extremely soggy.
The wine cocking fee is 15dollars (kind of outrageous tbh)
The food is overpriced for it's quality

Although all the things listed above the view is nice

    Service was less than ideal.
Asked for another bottle of water had to ask another waiter before it arrived
5 mins between my wifes main and mine arriving.
Asked the same water as the water for more serviettes both finished our mains and still waiting.
    Food was good though.

    Over priced.

NZ $18 for one small plate of calamari.😓

Not recommended. I went down the street and found Cooper Catch near town. Cheap and good

Average to poor! Food was expensive and minimal crayfish tiny 3 mouthfuls for a tail, stuffed chicken was small with a handful of potatoes no salad or any sort of greens. Expected fine dining but got less than what was portrayed. Will not be returning.

We visited the Green Dolphin twice within 3 days and it was both times Absolutely amazing. The service was outstanding and the food really good as the wine selection. Kaikoura hasn't got much to offer when it comes to gastronomic highlights but the Green Dolphin is in my opinion the number one option if you are in town. Don't go too late or give them at least a call that you are coming. You won't regret a visit, you will love it. The crayfish was an all over excellent experience and my friend who is a vegetarian had a really great alternative even the restaurant is specialised in fish and a bit of meat. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Had Valentine's Day here. Amazing food, probably the fanciest place for dinner in town! The staff are interesting and friendly. The baked veggies that came with our meal were unbelievable!
