Decent food, happy hour not very happy compared to other places.
Good food and drinks. Attentive service. Fantastic view from the back deck.
I stopped here for lunch on the way to Routeburn. It was a good burger and fries and a nice atmosphere. Service was fast and friendly.
Daily Roast Beef tasted like Monthly Roast Rubber, drenched in gravy.
Mash and seafood chowder were overly salted. Ironically, the Fish & Chips was underseasoned.
Other mains such as the vegetarian breakfast and buffalo wings were decent.
The roast vegetables that came with my roast were great and the only thing on the plate I could finish. But otherwise it couldn't save this lunch.
Good location, but food is very expensive, especially for standard pub food.
Decent stay. Didn't eat at the restaurant but they have really nice budget accommodation. Especially since there were no other options in glenorchy when I was there. No kitchen setup with the rooms yet though
The food was surprisingly delicious and wonderfully prepared. It was hard to choose from the menu, as I sat there watching all the dishes come out of the kitchen so I asked the chef to give me her best and she did an amazing job! Cheers to the chef!
Bit understaffed when we went there. Had to wait for 10 min for a staff member to show up in the bar at lunch to get a drink after ordering a meal in the restaurant. Staff weren't overly interested in helping and started the EFTPOS machine then left the bar to go do something else without warning. Left me standing there for a few minutes before I realised they weren't coming back.
They served beer after we had been hiking 5 days.. how could I not like this. Nice dining area in the garden too.
It wasn't easy to find accommodation that didn't break the bank. We needed somewhere to stay and it served the purpose. The bed was comfy. My husband found this hotel online through New Zealand's Gold Card discounts (special discounts for retired people) but the hotel wasn't aware of it. Upon check in we were given a discounted rate given off season. Can't complain. There was an outdoor restaurant aside from the bar, and parking for guests vehicle. Bed was comfy and ladies toilet hinges needed a few drops of oil to lessen the screeching noise every time the door was used.
Staff are really nice, helpful and friendly, facilities are basic, but really nice and clean. One thing which left a bad taste in my mouth is that the backpackers is meant to have kitchen facilities, it used to, but it's bring renovated. They can't be accessed currently but no discount is given to the rate, and when we asked for some basic things so we could make the food we'd bought, relying on a kitchen (just boiling water and a bowl) we weren't allowed crockery and were even charged for the take away coffee cup we were given, despite these very basic asks only being as a result of the missing kettle/kitchen facilities. The staff member was very friendly and gave us boiling water, but apparently they had to charge for a take away cup (even though we were ordering things from their cafe, including coffee) and couldn't give us one of the many bowls,. I would never expect this except for the kitchen debacle. So yes, until renovations are done, don't expect even basic kitchen facilities such as a cup and water etc and take this into account if you're coming off one of the hiking trails :) hopefully renovations will be done soon or the manager will change those ridiculous restrictions, because otherwise the place is good.
The biggest letdown of our trip so far. We stayed in one of the backpackers dorms, where there was barely enough room to stand up. The waitstaff were not friendly, though the bartenders and guy who seemed like an owner or manager were nice and helpful. The internet didn't work, and when it did was very limited. Shower had no water pressure. No space for backpackersno cooking area or lounge area at all.
The bar had a nice feel and the patio is beautiful, but the burger was pretty bad.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Glenorchy Hotel. The rooms were clean and the staff were very accommodating with local sights and activities. We enjoyed a couple of lovely meals in the restaurant, with an impressive wine list to match. Will definitely be back!
