The food and drink is of adequate quality but it's unacceptable to advertise prices incorrectly and then refuse to honour the price shown on an item. I accept that it was a genuine mistake pricing an item at $4.50 when it should have been $5 but it's just poor customer service to argue that "the ginger slice is large" and pick a price out of the air that isn't written anywhere - it somewhat undermines the point of advertising any prices at all. Whilst we were given the option to decline the item at the higher price, it's extraordinarily poor customer service, especially for such a small difference. The correct way to handle it would be to accept the error and correct the error for all future customers. In the UK where I live there are consumer protection laws that require businesses to honour advertised prices, even if shown in error. Evidently that isn't the case in NZ but anywhere that prides itself on customer service would do so out of common decency. The unenthusiastic service to the table after this incident hardly did anything to endear me to the establishment either. Perhaps this isn't representative of most peoples' experience here but slack practice should be exposed to prevent this kind of racket continuing.
Beautiful little cafe just off the main street of Arrowtown, lovely food and beautiful coffee. Real hidden gem, recommended to all passing through
