One unique place with a lot of hatelove feeling. Broken river is shaped like a big bowl and very often you get fresh newblown snow over the old tracks.
The downside, if you want to call it that, is the roptowing with the nutcracker belt you need to get up to the lodge and at the mountain. The nutcracker is the tool to attract the rope so you can get up and not squeeze you fingers in the wheels that a pull the rope up. It's bit easier for a skier but for snowboarder you have to go swich or have the rope behind you and in the end of the day you get quite exhausted. The locals say the rope towing is keeping all the rookies away so the ski field is it's doesn't get crowded.
The road to the ski field is is nice and not so long and at the parking is a nice elevator to take you up the stairs and the reception. Then you have to get to the rope towing where you get to the lodge or to the top of the mountain. It's two big roptowing to take you to the top of the mountain and one to take you even farther up.
I had a good time in broken river, but the roptowing takes so much energy if you not use to it. But it's one of the best club field in Canterbury.

Stunner of a ski field. From the good 'ol rope tows, to the empty slopes - it's a good time no matter the weather.

What a truly unique place. From the tramway at the carpark to the ropetows on the ski field, the skiing is incredible and the people couldn't be more friendly or welcoming. Five stars for an alpine gem.

Great little club field nestled in the Southern Alps. Good for all levels of skiers, and has one of the easier rope tows to use

Broken River might be a great ski field, it might be OK for snowboarders but being a 40 year old Goofy border who has never used a nutcracker before this place is hell. Like seriously hell. Spent an hour waiting for the line to operate while giving it several tries. They don't give refunds. I was lucky to get a lift on the tram back down.
