Waitakere Estate is an amazing destination for a luxury stay so close to Auckland. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The views are spectacular by day or night. The chefs are superb and go out of their way to accomodate guests.
We were there for a hens day breakfast last week Saturday morning from 10-12pm. The place was beautiful but the lady who was hosting us (staff) was very odd. Not friendly, very blunt, rude. Her approach and manner towards us felt very cold not welcoming at all. At the end us girls went to the deck to take photos, I asked her politely if she could take a quick photo of us and she said "No, I cant I have another group to prepare for." I said it will only take a few seconds and she said "Well ill be out in 10minutes". I dont think ive ever experienced that type of response in any place, ever. Customer service could be better at this place. I wouldn't pay to go back there with that type of service. Its a shame, such a beautiful venue if only the staff lived up to that level.
Also the breakfast menu is very over priced for the portion we received. $22 for a big breakfast which wasn't much and them menu said it included toast but it was shared between our group of 10ppl. 3pieces of toast between 3 people.
Lukewarm feelings about this place. Food was pretty good but odd hospitality vibe e. No children in dining room allowed when we went.
Fantastic experience. From the drive through scenic rain forest to the welcome and rooms which have been updated end of 2015. We have lived in Auckland since the 80's and did not know this place was here. The views back over Auckland were amazing and the gardens are kept in tip top condition.
The food especially the breakfast was just beautiful. Very helpful staff. We would definitely stay here again.
Thank you for a great break away.
Our Most Terrible Experience
My wife and I planned to stay 4 nights at Heritage Collection Waitakere Estate, out check-in was on 31st January, 2017 but we just stayed there for one night.
Kindly consider our below notes before booking this hotel:
• From the main road to the hotel, you have to pass the one-way curly detour with no light, which is even hard to pass with the small car.
• No available check-in process after 8PM
• No reception in the afternoon, someone from Kitchen did the check-in process!
• No reception after 11PM
• All the lights will be off after 11PM, basically no one can go outside because of no light
• Hotel Gates are all closed from the evening, you cannot go outside the hotel after 11PM, very dangerous for the emergency happenings
• No air-conditioner in the rooms
• No windows curtain net or any anti-insect, when the air is stock and you need some fresh air, you cannot leave the windows open because you will meet many insects
• No lift in the hotel, you need to ask many times for the assistant and finally someone from kitchen will come and help you
• You cannot even walk during the night, the little noise will travel to rest of the rooms
• As their process, They block 400$ in your check-in process and they will return that 25-30 days after your check-out, which they haven’t mentioned in their initial booking!
• The bathroom fan was super noisy and automatic (once you step in the toilet, it starts working), if you want to go to the toilet at night it will start working and make noise and trouble your partner
• The Wi-Fi was not working most of the time, we got 3 user and password and they were not working perfect, during the night we haven’t had any Wi-Fi network coverage, also the Wi-Fi account is not unlimited
• The balcony door cannot be opened from outside (if you go outside and close the balcony door, you cannot come back to the room until someone open the door from inside)
• We booked the room in second floor over the phone and as a note by Expedia, but they gave us the downstairs/underground level room
• We planned to stay 4 nights but we left there after just one night and booked another hotel which was very expensive than it’s normal rate because we booked that very late
Regards,
We visited for afternoon tea towards the end of January and everything was lovely. The lady at reception was polite and quick to find out if there was space for us. The waitress was great, very attentive and quick. Our afternoon tea platter was delicious and freshly prepared. All in all, a great afternoon.
Dirty old place with appaling reception staff. We had a reservation, arrived then left.
I am satisfied with the room and view, that's all. The asian guy for the reception gave us very poor service, seems like cheating us requiring and taking another money for the room, moreover they were very tardy to fix, their slowness made me impatient.
My wife and I stayed at the Waitakere Estate on Christmas Day for one evening of our honeymoon. The drive here is gorgeous, the room had a beautiful view, and the bed was comfy. These are the only nice things I have to say about this place. We had Christmas lunch reservations at 2:15 pm and arrived early to wait in the lounge area. We were greeted with sparkling wine and started off feeling great about our lunch. This soon turned really sour when we started to notice that everyone else around us was getting served some canapés and we were skipped over. We weren't brought back to our table until 2:50. The table was not fully set. Mind you there was three empty tables that had no one at them so we were confused why they took us back so late. There was even a dirty tray with cups and silverware on my husband's chair. Our waiter came quickly and gave us food menus. He took our order and after that we didn't see him for another half an hour. No drink menu was left, no water was poured, we did not get any biscuits, we were left stranded. Everyone else had these Christmas poppers on their tables and we did not receive any of those either. We were waiting patiently for someone to acknowledge us and another waiter finally poured us water. We asked him for a drink menu since one wasn't left for us (this was after 3:00 pm). No one came back to take our drink order so we finally flagged a manager down to give him our order. The wine finally arrived, still with no biscuits or our original waiter to come check on us (3:15 now an hour after our original reservation). Another couple from another table noticed that we were not getting service and could start feeling our tension and they intervened and said something to one of the waitstaff (which we appreciate, Thank You for that!). Finally after that and some chatter between us and other guests surprised at how we were treated, someone came over with our food. What made us really upset was the manager didn't come over and apologize for the delay. He walked around to every table to say merry Christmas besides ours. He knew were were upset and did not address it. It really put a damper on our Christmas.
