The owner Glen is one of the nicest and caring people we've ever met.
We are staying here since 3 and looking forward to more weeks.
We're feeling very comfortable in our room and I'm sure everyone who didn't expect a luxury hotel will be happy to.
Sometimes it's a bit dirty but that is the fault of the other people who live here and who don't know how to clean up after themselves. That's not the fault of the hostel or the owner. Keep that in mind.
By the way it's cleaned every morning.
We are really happy here, found a job, with the help of Glen, really fast and I have to say it again: it's so nice knowing such a kind, lovely and caring person like Glen.response / report this review -

Not bad for the price we paid kitchen smelt, room was too hot, deck was noisey when people walking backwards an forwards to kitchen. The worst thing about our stay was getting woken up at 8am by glen the owner who even walked in our room just to be told check outs at 10am. That
was weird an creepy.
he could have waited till we checked out. overall id never ever stay again.response / report this review -

I really enjoyed my stay here and met some really nice people. Glen was always there to help and he did his best to find jobs for everyone. The place really grows on you and felt like home away from home.

This is my home in New Zealand..It's a must visit when I'm return to NZ. It's has a great location which is only 5 mins to Pak n' Save, city centre..great place!!

Overall, an excellent experience! Sure, the kitchen was slightly messy (due to the residents), but our room (double en suite) was very clean and we were quite surprised at how affordable it was. Management was polite and informative. There was a single fly in the room that was a bit of a jerk and kept landing on our faces in the morning while we were trying to sleep, as well as one in the bathroom, (but that one mostly kept to itself). I don't see how the hostel could be to blame for a couple of bad apple flies :) Good location, all other guests were very nice, we walked away feeling refreshed and pleasantly surprised.

Severely untidy and full of flies in the lounge and kitchen. The worst hostel I have been in 2 months of travel. The managers were friendly.

It is alright for the price. We got work real quickly. But the only real positive thing was the other people that were manly German or Asian.

I stayed here for a few months because of the seasonal work. I would have changed hostels if it wouldn't have been for the friends I made there. The facility is really cozy and it feels more like a home than a hostel. The kitchens were always dirty but that was because of us backpackers. There was a cleaning lady every day. BUT: Tony is a nice and funny guy but just had enough of owning a hostel he charges you way to much for washing, transportation to work and the WiFi price is ridiculous. Lin is just a grumpy old lady who hates you from the beginning just because you are a backpacker and "they are all the same" I didn't feel welcome one moment with her. If she talks to you is either about money or just to complain about something. You pay 15$ to put up your tent and 21$(?) For a dorm room. You can find way better hostels in Napier than the aqua lodge.
