Possibly one of the most fantastic locations anywhere with a superb modern design allowing you to look down over Lake Taupo from on high. Breakfast was cooked on the spot by a highly skilled chef and the whole atomsphere was one of tasteful chic.

We stayed at Acacia Cliffs Lodge in early May of 2014 while traveling in New Zealand on our honeymoon. We booked the trip through a travel agent so we weren't entirely sure of what to expect when we arrived after a long day of driving and adventure. Rick and Linda welcomed us in so warmly and we discovered a bottle of champagne in our room awaiting us. They encouraged us to make ourselves at home and relax, then come upstairs when we were ready for dinner.
Our room was very comfortable and beautiful with an incredible view over Lake Taupo (which we would discover at sunrise). As we arrived upstairs, Rick and Linda had prepared a private table for us for our four course dinner. The meal was one of the most unforgettable of our lives and easily the best meal we had in all of New Zealand.
Our time at Acacia Cliffs was wonderfully peaceful, our hosts were both gracious and attentive without being even the slightest bit overbearing.
We elected to do a sailboat ride out on Lake Taupo and Rick immediately called them up and booked it for us. Each evening, Linda would ask how our day was, offer us a cocktail, and make sure we had everything we needed.
Our second day we mentioned that we'd like to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and Rick gave us wonderful advice on how to plan our tramp (hike), what weather to be wary of, when to leave and what to bring. He even called and booked a shuttle service for us so we could hike to our car at the end of the trail.
Lastly, as we told Rick our travel plans to drive to Napier after leaving Taupo, he suggested that instead of the Thermal Explorer Highway (which our travel agent had suggested) we take a much smaller road called "The Gentle Annie". We followed his advice and were rewarded with the drive of a lifetime. Words cannot explain how beautiful that ride was -- 60 miles of gorgeous scenery (and sheep). We will forever be grateful to Rick for this recommendation.
Breakfasts were absolutely incredible (the pancakes were so good, they haunt me still). Rick and Linda have a gorgeous place and they are two of the loveliest hosts -- and people you could ever ask for. I would happily give Acacia Cliffs 10 stars if I could. Please do yourself a favor and stay here if you're anywhere near Taupo -- the food, the views and the experience are absolutely unforgettable.
