One of the worst airport I have visited, everything is so slow, from the entrance to departure hall. Security checking was long queue and slow, expect to spend more than one hour for the process. 70USD FOR airport tax is a joke!
Only one international airport in nepal.
The place is located in the middle of kathmandu.
Being located in beautiful place the development and management is not perfect.
They are doing more but the thing they are doing on walk of 🐢..
Any way in नेपाल they are giving oke services.
We need to be very clever from the fraud.
They may took your money and things..
Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) (Nepali:त्रिभुवन अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय विमानस्थल, IATA: KTM, ICAO:VNKT) is an international airport inKathmandu, Nepal. The airport is about six kilometres from the city centre, in the Kathmandu valley. It is the sole international airport in Nepal, though Nijgadh International Airport has been proposed as a second. The airport has served as an airfield since 1949, and was inaugurated in 1955 by King Mahendra. It received its current name in 1964. Originally a grass runway, it was re-laid in concrete in 1957 and has been extended several times. The first jet aircraft landed at Tribhuvan in 1967 and regular jet operations commenced in 1972.
Small but beautiful and well organised airport
One and only international airpoart in nepal
It is the only international airport if our country but the operational condition of the airport is pathetic. Occasional delays, no computerized systems, unmanaged crowd make things worse. Lots of room for improvement, not just change it needs full upgradation.
Oct 2017.
Arrival in Nepal.
Only 1 to 2 custom counters for foreigners. After customs, head downstairs on the non-working escalators to luggage belt. Xray hand luggage then go to luggage belt. After collecting your luggage, airport staff will stand near the exit to verify your luggage tag on boarding pass and actual luggage. After that, there is a row of prepaid taxi counters. There are 2 prepaid mobile sim sellers on the right side before the final exit of the airport.
Departure from Nepal.
No air conditioning at ground level. On arrival for departure, beware of luggage porters taking your luggage without permission. Then go to scan luggage and check-in at counter. Some times, the TV panel will not display which counter to check-in, ask around. After check-in go upstairs for immigration clearance. There are a few shops after immigration clearance and prices are 4 to 5 times higher than Thamel. Stay in this area until 1.5 hours before boarding, then proceed for another security clearance, make sure your boarding pass is stamped after xray scanner. Inside the secondary holding area, it is chaotic and toilets are broken, floor flooded with urine and waste. The TV panel nay not display which gate to go to, ask around. Only 1 shop in secondary holding area.
Note.
As this is a small airport, expects delays due to lack of parking space for airplanes. So arrival planes cannot land until there is a parking spot, plane will keep circling in the sky, some time up to 1 hour.
The airport lacks many basic facilities. Baggages are mishandled. Staff's seam indifferent to any questions. The cafe inside is very expensive and it only has one cafe at every check point. Be careful.
Hopefully improves.
Only one airport in kathmandu city but still not well managed.
Appreciate the upgradation. But still hopeful for more facilities to introduce. Wish Luggage belt would be introduced soon both in International and Domestic Terminal.
