The Potala Tourist Home is the perfect space to begin your journey through Kathmandu, Nepal. Situated in the heart of the city and at a great price, I couldn't recommend it more. Ramesh (Manager) is a profoundly helpful and beautiful human-being. His ability to make you feel very welcome is exceptional and he extends him self greatly to meet your every need. I'd have to say the Potala is a place i'll be returning to again and again.

If illegal drugs, cold barely working showers, bad WiFi, prostitution, average food, waking up covered in bites, fake staff and noisy streets are your thing then head to this dump. Easily the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

While here, 2 men shared a room and had things stolen from their room, as the lock was faulty
The hotel’s reaction to this was to do nothing, no key, no replacement, no room change.. and one of the guys basically stayed in room at all times in case it happened again.

I would give it 0/5 but there is no option.

These are the bites I woke up with one day.
If money is involved then the hotel is helpful, put it that way

It is a nice place to stay if you don’t mind the bedbugs. Coming from the east coast of US, bedbug is no stranger to us. I’d suggest bring the bedbug traps seen on shark tank and prescript cortisone cream..

Greedy management, dirty hotel. Underage prostitution and solicitation. This place is gross. Try air BNB and other sincere local spots .

I haven't felt more at home anywhere in Nepal. Ramesh, a short gentleman usually somewhere near the lobby is the most helpful person to know In Thamel. He can direct you to anything you're looking for and will make sure you never go to bed hungry. (We messaged him at 2am asking where we could get sandwhiches and water, two minutes later he knocked on our door with water bottles and offered asked what kind of sandwhiches we wanted.) The power was virtually almost on and the solar lights worked perfect when it wasn't. It's about 2 blocks from Hot Bread (the center point of Thamel.) By far the best place to stay in Kathmandu.
