My family and I did a 9 day trek to Everest Base Camp with a helicopter ride back to Kathmandu. Our experience with Exciting Nepal was outstanding. From our first contact with the owner Subash, he answered any of our questions or concerns with great detail. Once we arrived in Kathmandu, Subash met with us to go over details and provided us some top-notch gear that was advertised we could use. We were very happy we took this on our trek (sleeping bag, walking sticks, jackets)!
Once we got to Lukla, we met our guide and porters. Our guide Shambhu was excellent throughout the trek. He always took care of us and provided options for different viewpoints, accommodations or recommendations. He was very kind in nature and made us feel like family. Our porters Ram and Kaji were always very welcoming and greeted us with smiles.
Overall experience was a 12/10 and would definitely recommend Exciting Nepal to any travellers to the region.
I booked the Everest Three Passes trek with Exciting Nepal and had a positive experience overall, with a few suggestions as well. If you're thinking of doing this trek, I highly recommend it! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience full of jaw-dropping views and unforgettable memories.
Pros:
- The manager, Subash, was very easy to communicate with leading up to the trek date.
- After I got a bad cold and was having trouble with the altitude towards the end of my trek, my guide Shambhu successfully and helpfully restructured the last few days of hiking to get me to lower altitude one day earlier.
- When I proactively asked in an easily understandable way, Shambhu offered interesting information about the landscapes and culture.
- My porter, Ram, was amazing and kind.
- The provided heavy jacket and sleeping bag were absolutely essential.
- Exciting Nepal kept the trek going even though I (as a solo traveler) was the only person who signed up.
Cons:
- On most days we did not start our hike until 20-30 minutes after our scheduled departure time because my guide was delayed.
- I was assured that my dietary restrictions would be respected and taken care of, but it quickly became clear that my guide had no understanding of these restrictions. Thankfully I was able to figure things out on my own.
- The return to Kathmandu from the Everest region features little organization and preparation. After flying back into Kathmandu valley at Ramechhap, we waited for 30 minutes while all of the other trekkers left on tour buses and we eventually we took a public van (ludicrously jam-packed with 16 people, twice as many people as there should have been) back to Kathmandu. The trip took over 5 hours and was exceedingly uncomfortable, a far cry from the 3.5 hour trip to Ramechhap in a car at the beginning of the trek.
- Oftentimes I would end up being alone for portions of the hike because my guide would go at his own pace. He would often be far behind me (not keeping up) or far in front of me (not stopping when I stopped to take photos), and would sometimes be so far away that I couldn't see him and had to fend for myself at trail intersections.
Tip: when you get to a teahouse for the night, go on a walk around the area! Some of my favorite experiences on the trek came when I went beyond the itinerary and explored side paths by myself. Don't listen if your guide says "there's nothing interesting to see on that path" - in my experience that was incorrect every time!
I travelled to Nepal in sept/oct 2022 and had always wanted to see the himalaya mountains. Considering the changeable weather and limited time I went with a helicopter to Lukla and back from Namche Bazar. I booked my flight through Subash at Exciting Nepal Treks. I have to say, of my many experiences booking travel, the service I received from Subash was amazing, both when I was still planning my trip and after. On the last day, the weather had changed in Namche bazar and no helicopters were able to fly there, I needed to be back in Kathmandu the next day. If it wasn’t for Subash’s help to get me back and book alternate helicopters for me I would never have made it. Incredible service and I’d highly recommend Exciting Nepal Treks not just for booking helicopters but for any travel. I’m deeply grateful for everything he did during my trip to make it all work.
Fantastic trek! Made it to base camp and had an amazing time with basu (guide) and Kumar (porter). Basu kept us safe, informed, and provided an awesome itinerary. Thank you again for the memories and experiences!
I have just accomplished trekking to Everest Base Camp with Exciting Nepal Treks - simply amazing adventure, great company and my guide Suman was simply best on the trail! He was helpful, carrying and very professional along the way. It's not an easy trail, so you'll need a good leader there. We reached EBC and Kala Patthar, which is fab! The company was highly responsive from the beginning and Subash the owner is a lovely and helpful person, everything seem to be run smooth and easy. Fabulous recommendation!
