CIWEC Clinic Travel Medicine Center is one of the most reputable destination travel medicine clinics in the world. The clinic was established in 1982 to meet the need for a western standard clinic to treat foreign diplomats and aid workers in Nepal. During its 30 year journey, it has expanded its services from a small clinic set up in 1982, to a full service clinic cum hospital providing both outpatient and inpatient care.

I had developed some sort of stomach bug while trekking on the EBC trail. Upon returning to Kathmandu, I sought medical attention at the CIWEC clinic. I was treated with a high level of respect the moment I walked through the door. The receptionist's were kind and welcoming, especially the triage nurse who first attended to me. I can't speak highly enough of the doctor that treated me as well.
Anyone who claims that this medical facility is inept is completely wrong. I've been travelling for a year and this facility ranks in the top 3 medical clinics that either my partner or I have been to.
If you have any medical needs whilst in Kathmandu or Pokhara (or Nepal, really) I would definitely seek help and guidance from this facility. Our travel insurance, World Nomads, also recognized this clinic and our reimbursement from WN is on its way.

Such an excellent treatment, compared with my home country (Switzerland!); i got an appointment at less than an hours notice, no problem for MRI and X-ray within a few hours, very reassuring and calm staff, especially the English receptionist who checked everything was ok as she headed home at the end of her shift.

The doctors and nurses might be well trained, but I got never the pleasure to be treated by them. I went there twice with minor diseases, such as a sty and tonsillitis and the nurses pretended to not be able to help me, they wanted me to see the doctor, which obviously costs 90$.
If you want me to pay, because I'm a tourist, thats ok, but don't lie to me about your qualities and that only a doctor could help me. You are nurses, you have all medical training!
I'm generally not agreeing with this concept to separate western tourists from nepali people. You are creating inequality.
My suggestion is to let nurses treat minor injuries and diseases for a lower cost. And the doctors take on the severe ones for 90$.response / report this review -

Efficient service, communicative and knowledgeable staff. My friend came in with chest pain and the cardiologist came in from.home and saw him right away. Impressive.

Great care. Nurses are good. Doctors are professional and their communication skills are great. I took my son for an emergency checkup about 1 month ago and the pediatrician was amazing. I do have to admit that their service is good, timely, focused but the price is significantly more expensive than local hospitals.

Few of my foreign friends referred it as Clinics for 'Very Rich Foreigners'. Despite of flawless nursing care, fact is that the same level of personalized service is available in other hospitals and clinics in Nepal on about 80% cheaper price.

Super super expensive. No operation theater. Operation done at Chirayu hospital and Chirayu (which is very bad hospital) charged $6000 for operation referred through CIWEC. Despite bad things, the NURSING CARE is EXCELLENT. Each of the nurse was very good, friendly and always try best to give relief to the patient. Surgeon was also through professional.

The physio (led by Dr Manoj) is accurate, patient, and it addresses the issue - all with a good atmosphere and flexible hours. Did 10 session, also learned a lot.
