Excellent local museum, well explained pieces of life and history and science of the area. Plenty, bit not all, exhibits have English and sometimes German text, and brochures or read cards in others. Large Sami/Sampi exhibits. Very friendly staff, short trip from the airport if you have a long layover.
Covers wide range of topics.
Quite interesting to spend a couple of hours.
Tromsø University Museum.
Landmark building and cultural institution in Tromsø. Geology, biology, societal, religion, saami. I would have liked to about fisheries, trade, and the relevant technologies impact in forming the development of the region and its interactions with the rest of the world.
Really nice small museum showing a lot about Sami culture and polar animals
Nice and entertaining museum. Very friendly staff and nice souvenir. The Sami exhibition is specially interesting. A bit more on thr vikings would be nice.
A good place to visit if you want to get to know the history of the area. I wish there would be more about the Vikings but otherwise they have a good amount of information on the Sami as well as a decent area about animal life in the North as well as a section about church history. The geological section is getting a makeover which brings down the rating a bit.
Very good museum. Must be in the priority list.
There is a section about sami people
wifi
Very interesting. Recommend
Do not forget to walk past the building towards the sea to see the breathtaking view of snow clad Tromso.
