‘For me there are only two kinds of women, goddesses and doormats’ - Picasso.
From Rembrandt and Goya to Bonnard and Stanley Spencer, male artists have drawn obsessively and immensely productively on the faces and bodies of their wives and lovers. But no one used and abused his women quite like one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso.
Of the seven most important women in Picasso's life, two killed themselves and two went mad. Another died of natural causes only four years into their relationship. Yet while Picasso had affairs with dozens, perhaps hundreds of women, and was true to none of them – except possibly the last – each of these seven women shines out as a crucial catalyst in his development as an artist. Each stands for a different period in his career, representing a complementary or opposing ideal that inspired the evolution of a new visual language. Just as they became obsessively involved with him, so he was dependent on them.

Gilbert & George claim they came together because George was the only one who could understand Gilbert’s poor English at the Saint Martin’s School of Art where they met in 1967. Later on in 2002 they stated it was love at first sight. The couple married in 2008 and is rarely seen without one another. They refuse to see their performances apart from their every day lives and declare that everything they do is art.
We are all works of art and we’d like to cheers with you on love, art and being alive. Join the party this Thursday! 🥂👯♂️

The story goes that in 1963 artist Francis Bacon caught George Dyer attempting to burgle his home in London. Instead of calling the police the artist invited him to bed. Bacon obsessively painted his portraits. Their relationship was stormy and ultimately proved tragic. Two days before the opening of the Francis Bacon Retrospective in Paris, lover and muse Dyer was found dead from a drink and drugs overdose in his hotel room. Bacon never stopped painting his portraits.
Love and art will keep you alive or drive you insane. Let’s celebrate before it’s too late!

Artist couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera married in 1929 when his ex wife tried to disrupt the wedding. Five years later Frida’s sister confessed having an affair with Diego. They split because of it but re-married in 1940 after heavy controversy. In the curious marriage contract they drew up Kahlo claimed herself free from sexual relation to her husband. Before her death Frida stated that two main misfortunes had scared her life; the tram accident that paralysed her right leg and her husband.

Artist couple Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely create monumental sculptures like the Stravinsky Fountain at Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Tarot Garden in Tuscany, Italy. After two years of marriage they separate but never get legally divorced and keep on supporting one another creatively.
