quirky exhibit founded on Nicaraguan and Leon folklore. text heavy. few objects. narratives written in both English and Español. the prison setting adds much to the tone and nuancethe exhibition. the building is what will charm you and be most memorable. other reviews mispeak ; there is ample information about the prison's history in one of the rooms. look for the big room off the front off the second front courtyard.

Converted from an old prison. Paid C$50 for the entrance. An English speaking guide explained this museum about its sad and cruel history. On the other hand, the museum had many figures telling some legendary stories of the country.

Interesting to see Nicaragua's miths and legends and the museum itself which is set in an ex-prison. Recommended for its authenticity.

Although not as 'developed' of a museum as some tourists may have become accustomed to, I found this museum very interesting and well worth the visit. Great stories of Nicaraguan folklore that would have otherwise been difficult to uncover. Descriptions are mainly in both Spanish and English as well

I liked this place. After a failed attempt to visit in my first day in Leon, I managed to get there in opening hours the next day. I loved the subject of the exhibit, it's just so different. And colorful. Besides, there is the historical meaning of the building, an old jail from Samoza's National Guard. A must do in Leon.

This place is pretty wacky. There's not too much info on the history of the place as a prison, however the stuff it houses on local legends is both bizare and entertaining.

Not a lot on the jail and the prisoners like visiting Alcatraz but a good explanation on cultural dance costumes and folk lore.

Knowledgeable guide and interesting exhibits in the former prison turned local musem of history and legends. The displays are quite dusty amateutish and are in varying stages of disrepair. The catwalk around the prison feels great. Apart from seeing the surrounding areas and the museum, you can also see the dirty laundy (litetally) of the neighboring residents.

Great experience! Good place to learn about Nicaragua's history and have a taste of the traditions and culture. I recommend to ask for a tour guide, it's more interesting. For those who knows what Gigantona is, here you can find the biggest one in Nic.
