Come surf! Good food, great guide, nice clean rooms, amazing surf!
This place is AMAZING!!! They have a really nice pool directly overlooking the beach. The hammocks under the 2 story tiki hut are a perfect spot to take a nap with a great breeze. They have "Pizza night" and have their own brick pizza oven. The rooms are really nice with A/C and very clean. You don't have to even surf to have a fantastic time here. There is a laid back beach bar 20 feet down the beach with $1 beers! All the food is organic and delicious! My wife is a Dr. and we love going to Miramar beach to just relax. The locals are really nice and we have been a number of times. We have NEVER felt unsafe. Nicaragua is so beautiful and the staff here really make you feel at home. There is a GREAT surf break here, but like I said, sometimes we go just to find a cool place to relax. The pictures on their webpage ,while awesome, don't do it justice. You have to go see for yourself, and you will be posting a raving review too!!!!
This was my first surf trip out of the United States, and I was traveling solo. The resort feels very secure and they take it seriously with night watchmen outside of both main lodging areas, not that it felt necessary at all as the area of the resort seems very tranquil. The staff is fantastic at the hotel. Sergio made me feel very welcome and at ease, and the wait staff Axel, and Maria are very friendly and accommodating. As a vegetarian I was a bit nervous of my meal choices, but the resort tries to be accommodating as possible and will take requests to customize your meals. The portion sizes were generous and hit the spot for a day full of surfing. The best is when the fired up the pizza oven for fresh brick oven pizza.
As someone between a "beginner" and "intermediate" i was a bit unsure of where I would fit in. I did a little of both. I took some early beginner classes was Pastor who is a very patient surf coach with excellent English. I was able to talk details of the drop, board sizing, duck diving, rips, and take tips from him to get my confidence up. The beginner classes were also good to get used to the foreign beach breaks and then towards the end of the trip, I took boat rides with other more experienced travelling surfers to different breaks where I could challenge myself more. The other travelers that were at the resort were all very nice people and fun to talk to. I'd like to think I'll be seeing some of them again either in the US or abroad.
I visited during the last week of November which was perfect. There was about 2-3 ft swell at the walking distance spots, and 4-5 ft at the more remote areas. On a particularly "flat" day, we were able to take a van trip to a neighboring spot which was one of the best surf days I had there. No worries of not finding swell. Didn't rain one day while I was there and the wind was manageable, mostly offshore. Water temp was around 80F as was the air temp. The humidity makes it feel warmer.
Outside the resort there are two dining options in walking distance and a convenience store nearby. Other than that there is a school and residences. Pretty remote.
The resort has some basic first aid equipment for any injuries or illness. I traveled with some basic medicines and bandages. There is a medical facility in the near town of Puerto Sandino I believe.
The ocean front rooms are nicer, and closer to the other resort facilities, but the rooms in the back are also nice if you're okay with communal bathrooms and travelling on a budget. I stayed in the back rooms. I think most of the water is gravity fed systems so don't expect too much water pressure and the showers in the back are not heated which isn't a problem with the warm weather and humidity.
I hope to return soon. Special thank you to the Miramar Staff!!
Amazing place!
Wahoo, great place!
My buddies and I spent eight days at the Miramar Surf Camp and had the best experience in every category. The facilities have a spacious design to relax around, a great community dining area, open air patios to fall asleep in a hammock, very clean, and skate ramps to workout on. The staff is warm, friendly, fun, attentive, and constantly available. The food was amazing!! and plentiful. We also were lucky enough to time that first week of May, which produced beautiful waves on the point. Thank you Leandro, Daniela, Mia, David, Elias, Lloyda, Brittany, the wonderful chef's and the ground crew that made Miramar a paradise. Joe
