  Having an amazing time. The spanish classes are challenging but rewarding. Come with an open mind and let go of preconceived notions. Soak up this amazing country.

  This was my first scuba dive to see endangered fish species, and my first to dive with a scientist. It was a good combination. The prices for hostel accomodation are low, and the people at the Estacion Biologica are all interesting.

  This school is not for everyone. But for the person who wants to enjoy water, nature, and learn the best Spanish, this is what is done best here. Accommodations are rustic, food is homestyle with less fried than at other places and lots of veggies. My teacher was far better than the one I had in Granada. I went birdwatching with Jeffrey one day and another day went on an scientific expedition with Pablo. Saw lots of monkeys.
  I am a certified scuba diver, so Jeffrey took me on a scientific scuba dive. I learned more than on any other dive, about fish species that Jeffrey and colleagues have discovered and are only found in this lake.

  I signed up to volunteer here having read their comprehensive information on their website which made this look like a vibrant and dynamic place to meet people. However, this is completely false. I arrived to find I was the only person booked here for my entire ten day stay. The place is very isolated. There is no view of the Laguna. To get there you need to walk alone down a small track. I would have been sleeping there on my own. I left after two hours. I had been asked to pay upfront, by depositing the whole amount into their bank account. Very unusual for Nicaragua. I should have smelled a rat!! Although I phoned and emailed them afterwards, I never got a reply about a refund. Not at all recommended. 😔
