We toured on Cerro Negro with the company Volcano Day. The took us there in a Jeep and explained to the group the formation of the volcano. They also gave us a board to go down the volcano and it was fun! All of this for only 10$US and they also took pictures and offered a beer. The only bad point I found is the group (around 20 people) is a little bit crowded for such an activity. Still, it was nice and it's accessible to everyone since the volcano is really small.
The view from the top of the volcano is beautiful. You get to see the line of volcano's to the South and north. The hike is easy to medium, but it's totally worth going with a tour that goes volcano boarding. Volcano boarding is a once in a lifetime experience. Be sure to wear suscreen, sunglasses, and something to cover your face
We did this trip with Russel from Geo Tours. It was $250 for two people all in with round trip transportation to Managua. It was great. Worth doing.
The only place to do volcana boarding. The hike is approximately 45 minutes, a good shoes is recommended and you'll need a guide. It looks scary but it is not. It is almost 700m of sliding down and around 45 degree steep.
Volcano boarding. Not as scary as it looks, but a good hike to get up there. Hike up over an hour and board down in less than a minute. Many tour guides in Leon offer volcano boarding for about the same price. Stay hydrated. Once in a lifetime opportunity.
