We visited for A five day stay, amazing and remote
Barefoot luxury at its best!
Two nights in early December were insufficient to benefit fully from the astonishing beauty of the surroundings, and the comfort of the camp. We were most fortunate in our drive from Maputo through the Reserve, and quickly saw all the major animals at close hand, helped by our excellent and very knowledgeable guide/driver. Food was faultless and generous, and the staff deserve high praise. If it's peace you seek, then beware the constant roar of the ocean breakers at Anvil Bay, but the evening light up in the dunes overlooking the lake was unforgettable, and returning to sit beside a log fire with more drinks was wonderful.
The resort is a paradise, the epitome of the phrase “Barefoot Luxury” as you arrive you are welcomed by the warm weather and a seaside view, taking off your shoes and setting your feet in the sand. Once your shoes are off then you know you are home. The lodge incorporates nature into its design with fantastic wood work in the rooms and main areas and canvas tenting enclosed under the trees and bushes for protection from bad weather. I say bad weather because our staying here was mainly during a rainy period but we did get a little bit of sun during our stay. The staff are gracious and modest, always helpful and up to the task. It does feel like the lodge is still on its training wheels a bit as staff are still under training and there is room for improvement on certain aspects like rooms and guests being escorted at night. Room number 3 unfortunately did not do to well with the weather as the rain made its way into the room so not ideal for any guests staying there during a storm but I am sure this will be remedied by the time any one else uses this room. All the other rooms were protected of course as they were covered by the shield of trees. Everything you do at this resort will always be on the beach and it is such a wonderful feeling. Walking to and from your room on the beach, eating dinner or breakfast with your feet in the sand and just lounging on the beach with a cocktail. There is no better place to relax.
At night you make your way to your room in darkness which can be a bit worrisome for tourists but not to fret as you are perfectly safe.
A Genuine barefoot wilderness experience, getting really close to nature by having a safari experience and being able to stay right on the beach. There are not many places that you can get this type of experience. Great Staff and excellent accommodation.
