Do not eat at the buffet. We went to eat there on our visit to Chichen Itza and there were worms in the fresh fruit pile. I had peeled a grapefruit and found maggots wriggling inside. Plus the food is just nasty, tastes funny like it may have been expired or something. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Don't eat here.

Unfortunate to give this place 1 star as the grounds of the hotel and the main building itself are really beautiful. The key issues during our stay here were:
1. They got the room wrong, it was meant to be a double bed but they provided a room with two single beds and no alternatives as they were fully booked.
2. Plumbing is from the distant past, so drainage in the shower and the toilet for our room was poor.
3. Food options are either a buffet (330 pesos per head) or a la cart restaurant selling the same items, but both have meats cooked till they're dry and very overpriced for the area.
4. No WiFi in the room, just in the lobby.
5. Lunchtime entertainment comes out as traditional singers and dancers who have to perform in the middle of the buffet - so fairly awkward to get your lunch and eat as you have to avoid dancers who are clapping by your table.
All said, the service was very good and, must emphasize, the grounds inside the hotel resort were amazing; however, we're now convinced there are better options nearby for Chichen Itza visitors.response / report this review -

Very nice place in the middle of nowhere. The tropical garden is so cute. Very close to the maya ruins. Awesome lunch buffet for around 10-12€ and very friendly staff. Wish I could stay longer

This place was delightful. Adorable historic bungalows and lodge, nicely landscaped and a pretty pool to boot. Don’t get your hopes up about the restaurant but take solace in the quick entry to Chitchen Itza. We hired a guide (Victor) for $900 pesos and it was well worth it. He even brought us an umbrella 😊

This hotel is located on one of the most beautiful places on earth. It is overlooking Chichen Itza observatory.
The archaeological park is bordering with the hotel premises, so going to see the pyramids was easy.
The hotel is comfortable, and the bungalows are charming, located in a well groomed garden.response / report this review -

I made a reservation online 3 nights ago. The reservation was meant to be for February 7, 2018. I received a confirmation email and moved it directly into my travel folder. My niece sent me a text message last night and said that the confirmation email stated that the hotel reservation was for the night after I made the reservation on October 27, 2017.
I called the hotel and no one answered. I sent them an email and nobody responded. I called the hotel again this morning and they told me it we're sorry you missed your reservation there's nothing we can do about it. I explain to them that I live in California and I'm not going to be down in the Yucatan Peninsula until February. They refused to help me.
I understand that it was probably my error that put the wrong date in the calendar or that it had reset when it went to the next page of the booking and I didn't notice. But the customer service was absolutely horrible they absolutely refuse to listen to me and do anything not even change the booking for another date for a fee.
So I paid $100 for a hotel room in a country that I'm not even in for another several months. :-(response / report this review -

Beautiful hotel! Everything about the hotel itself was amazing, there was so much attention to detail. I was very impressed with the history of the hotel, the woodwork, and landscaping of the grounds. My family and I also loved and took advantage of the private entrance to Chichén Itzá. Unfortunately, one major issue we had here was the restaurants that were apart of the hotel. They were SO over priced! The hotel has definitely definitely created a monopoly when it comes to the food. Because of the location of Mayaland Hotel, there is nowhere else to eat, you're pretty much forced to eat at their extremely over priced restaurants. It's good, but it's not like the food is worth the extra amount you have to pay. Be vary careful of the waiters, they are really sneaky. Our waiter asked my wife and mother-in-law if they wanted fruit with their breakfast, which they decided to do. But then I also received fruit, even though the waiter never asked me and my meal didn't include it. He also gave everyone juice without asking. After it was all said and done, we received our bill and were very confused at the cost. There were many discrepancies, my meal not including the upgrade I never asked for, was more than the price on the menu for some strange reason. He just said that the kitchen made that mistake, but that was a flat out lie when he was the one who wrote down our orders and wrote the bill. And it turns out that adding fruit and juice to your breakfast more than doubles the cost of each meal. If I can stress one thing, it is that you NEED to look over your bill before you pay. I give the hotel 5 stars, but the restaurant isn't worth the extra money and I'm very disappointed in the dishonesty of that waiter.

What a mistake to pay for this hotel. They offer early sunrise tickets to me through their private entrance. At checkin I was told they dont have!!! They have an entrance but only from 10AM and you still pay and main entrance is just 3 minutes away. Very disappointed the only reason I booked. It took me 2 hours to arrange tickets through a tour operator and I was in at 6AM for sunrise. NO help at all from hotel. I stay in hotels about 200 nights a year (travel reporter) AVOID this hotel AT ALL COST. Its not worth it.
Then, they advertise rooms with airconditioning but they have only ventilation. My room was terrible after complain I was shown another room but same problem. Rooms are 30 degree celcius!!!
Food is average good but 4x overpriced. Wifi is terrible slow and non existant in the rooms. Except the bathroom it needs an upgrade. No telephone in the room to call room service or if there is an emergency.
I would stay away!! After I complained I was told " oh sorry". Staff was not helpfull at all. Didnt even bother to offer a drink or something for the hot room. They say "we upgraded you" not sure what that means. To a hotter room?
After about 100 nigts in hotels in 2017 this is the only one to avoid at all costs.response / report this review -

I've been in many places in Mexico but this one is a very special one. Just in front of the pyramids of Chichen-Itza. We got an invitation to stay in one of the bungalows built like a maya house. Beautiful interiors and splendid gardens. You can walk to the pyramids, visit the Planetarium, swim at the pool and have a dinner at the terrace. One "iguana" visited me every morning. I had a great time here!

Clean and super friendly. Upgraded my room for free since a little bit nicer one was available. I was here during the slower months though so i wouldn't expect that. Just beautiful scenery and all the amenities you could want. There access to the ruins are second to none. Walk from your room right to ruins. Well you have to pass there amazing courtyards. They have bungalows as well.

Our room was spacious and had an amazing view. Breakfast was delicious, but don't eat at the lunch buffet > that is more for the people who come to the hotel with touring cars.
Staff is really helpful and nice.
Entrance to the park is super close by. If you have time: try one of their margaritas: they are to die for!response / report this review -

The whole hotel/bungalows is/are beautiful and clean.
The only bad thing was that we didn't had a mosquito net so we got stung by many many mosquitos and the AC didn't work or we couldn't turn it on because there were no batteries in the remote.
The employees however were very friendly.
The food was delicious except of the undercooked vegetables.

Many rooms are in Mayan cottages with elegant amenities, thatched roof and a/c. Property has a la carte restaurant, buffet restaurant, snack bar and bar. Beautiful gift shop, walking distance to ruins.

The closest hotel to Chichen Itza, superior rooms are amazing with their private balcony. The garden is quite nice and restaurant offers an amazing menu.

Pros:
1. 92 years old vintage and well-maintained building.
2. Private entrance to Chichen Itza
3. Multiple cenotes nearby
4. Multiple hotel amenities: at least 3 restaurants, 2 swimming pools, 3 souvenir shops
5. Big garden with gigantic trees and various wild birds. Wake up by the sounds of birds every morning. Ideal for bird/nature lovers.
Cons:
1. Poor internet connection inside the room
2. Hotel staffs don't smile so much
3. Only one restaurant remains open after 5pm in the hotel and that restaurant is rather expensive. If you don't want to eat in that restaurant, you have few options. 1. Eat in the restaurant of other nearby hotels. 2. Although Chichen Itza closes at 5pm, the only one restaurant in Chichen Itza remain open until 7pm. It's cheaper than the restaurant in the hotel. So you can eat there and pay 80 pesos to take a taxi back to the hotel, it would still be cheaper than eating in the hotel. You will have to ask restaurant staff to help you get a taxi. 3. Go to nearby village Piste and eat there.
4. After sunset there is not much to do.
5. The private entrance between the hotel and Chichen Itza is only 5 - 10 minutes walk, but it cannot be used after 5pm once the ruin is closed. After 5pm you will have to take a taxi because there is only one highway route that takes a big turn around the entire area. You can talk risk to walk on the highway but it is not recommended and it takes minimum 45 minutes.response / report this review -

This hotel has the potential to be amazing if only the staff was not so careless in their work. The setting is amazing - you can see the observatory of Chichen Itza from many of the rooms; the rooms themselves are comfortable and well kept; the food is very tasty.
The location next to the archeological site makes for very relaxed travelling to the site.
The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous and dining under the stars was really precious.
But the front desk staff seems to care les whether or not they fulfil your requests. We never received the towels we asked for day after day. Requests for buckets of ice were ignored. On the day we left, the transport we ordered was nowhere to be found and we had to order it all over again.
Visitors need to know that drinking water is not provided with the room and there are no in room safes for valuables. Further, the hotel safe will not accept laptops.
These are annoying details because the property charges almost 300 USD per night. 5 star prices for 2 star service.
But the sound of the birds in the morning is amazing. And the beautiful grounds are calming and soothing.response / report this review
