One of the best vacations I have ever been on and the staff at Luna Encantada are second to none. If you truly want to experience Playa del Carmen at its best, Luna Encantada is a must stay. Thank you for the fantastic experience, it was EXCELENTE!

Having stayed in many tropical condos, our review is based upon comparisons to other condos. We stayed in two Luna Encantada condos during the past week. The condo grouping itself is in a very good location, between fifth avenue and the beach with security gates precluding entry to non guests. Its external appearance was definitely well above average, although there were definite signs of typical tropical deterioration. The pool is in a courtyard and therefore all pool noise echoes within the courtyard, a problem when many poorly behaved children are in attendance. Access from the pool to the beach was through a security gate that was often not closed, thus providing no security. The condo staff had a well above average presence and were readily available to provide any help needed.

Upon arrival, verification of who we were was painless, however the expected and promised unit orientation was never provided. Operation of appliances was never explained, and the promised restaurants and attractions guide was never found. While it's true that a phone call to management probably would have solved the problems, good management would make that unnecessary. We did not call management except for problems with the dishwasher door not closing in D1. That was fixed readily by the staff with a minor structural repair to secure it to the cabinetry with a new piece of wood. We also called management about G3 because one of the headboards in the second bedroom actually fell off the wall. The second headboard in that bedroom was also very loose. Since we were only staying there for the last two nights we suggested they re-anchor those headboards the morning after we left.

D1(a 4 star condo unit) was in an ideal location, on the first floor, with the master bedroom and the common living area, overlooking the beach, but half a level above the beach, so public beach walkers would not have direct access to the unit even if the security gate was left unlocked. Bedrooms two and three were adequate for sleeping(on low quality mattresses), but they were not well insulated from outside noise. However, the court yard pool was around the corner so the noise level was minimized. The unit itself was well furnished, with an appealing motif, but low quality furnishings. The mattresses were well below average due to wear. While there was above average insect presence, even for the tropics, the insects were confined to the kitchen cabinets and the oven. We'd recommend that unit to others, even at the inflated price.

G3(a two star unit) had a nice third floor view to the ocean as well as the pool, however being at the end of the courtyard, all noise(it was extremely noisy from 6AM until 2AM) could be heard from that unit. It had decent quality furnishings, but the furnishings and the unit itself stunk of uncontrolled mold and mildew. It was evident that it was the unit, especially compared to D1. The refrigerator freezer compressor needs replacing since it was very noisy and operated many times per minute. The upstairs(roof) furnishings were old and smelled. There was a badly stained day bed under a canopy. It looked gross enough that no one in our group dared to use it. The unit had very nice bathrooms.

Having stayed in several 5 star tropical condos over the years, it is evident that Luna Encantada, while perhaps well above average for the area, is no more than average, based upon the price charged. We'd give it about 3.5 stars for the area and 3 stars when compared to all tropical venues.

We had a large group of 19 people ages 29 to 39.

    The Condos:
We stayed in condos C1 and E3. We had the best of both worlds at each condo. C1 was beach side right on the water and next to the pool. As far as I can see this location is the closest to the water of any rooms/condos in Playa del Carmen! You can simply walk right out of your condo and down a few steps to the beach. We loved opening the big double doors out to the patio to see the ocean and watch people walking by. E3 had a rooftop deck with amazing views of the ocean and town! We spent every night up top on the patio enjoying the sunset and cooler breeze. Both condos were spacious, very clean, with high end decor. Beds were very comfortable. Kitchen was supplied with basic necessities; coffee pot, cups plates, etc., drinking water. There is an elevator available to access the top floors.

    The Location:
We were all extremely happy with the location on Luna Encantada. It was truly in the best location downtown Playa del Carmen. Right on the water, and a few steps to 5th Ave (calle 5) which is where all of the shops, restaurants, and tours are. We were impressed that there was 24hr security and it was a gated and locked complex at the front entrance and beach side. I didn't even see another condo in Playa along the beach that was gated! We felt very safe staying here, and in general, safe everywhere we went in Playa del Carmen.

    The Beach:
We couldn't be more happy with the beach area in front of Luna Encantada. lounge chairs are reserved just for the guests. Edgar was there from dawn to dusk to make sure you had chairs, tables, and umbrellas! There is a beach side outdoor restaurant on either side of Luna, Fusion and Inti Beach, a guy from either would walk over and hand you a menu and you can order drinks and small dishes all day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and they will bring it to you at your chair! It was the best service. They were very friendly and attentive. We tipped them well every day. There is a small rock formation in the water right in front of Luna but we thought that was the best thing! Beach goers would swim off to the sides so we had a less busy and unobstructed view of the water!

This review is for the Condo C2. Do not book this condo as the owner will cancel your stay 4 days before you arrive. This happened to our family when we were contacted by the property management 4 days prior to arrival that the owner wanted his condo during our stay. Very disappointing. We were given B1 that was not on the water instead. No matter what rental website you use, do not book C2 condo!

Amazing! Perfect for families or couples. Condos are beautiful. Very clean and well maintained. The pool looks out over the ocean. The beach is public but the complex reserves lounge chairs and umbrellas. The complex is very safe with security guards and keypad entry from the street and beach. 1 block from 5th Ave - tons of shops, restaurants and activities. Beautiful view of the sunrise and the moon over the ocean. Highly recommend Luna Encantada.
