Went here on an excursion through Carnival Cruise lines. It was my first time fly fishing. The guide showed me the basics and we caught fish. Guides are great. Fishing was good and one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen.

This was an older place about five hours drive down the road from Cancun. The beach isn't very good, almost no sand, the snorkeling is difficult as the area is very shallow and its a pretty good swim out to the coral heads. And I do mean shallow, like not deep enough to swim shallow. Xcalac is the nearest village, not much there. Mainly caters to the fishing group, which was great fun. Went out with my friend for fly fishing, the guide was excellent, us not so much, but he was patient and kind and we had a blast. The bed was comfortable, the water was hot, the lizard in the thatch roof not very noisy. Bear in mind you are at the end of a very long supply line, they take visa and dollars as well as pesos, bring all of it along. No ATM for miles, no banks, no cell coverage. The nearest ATM is in mahual and while we stopped four times they never had cash in them. The food is quite good, especially if they had fish. The beer was plentiful, fairly cold and brewed locally. Also had a local mango whiskey that was pretty good. The WiFi worked at the bar but expect daily power outages. Never very long, but it reminds you that you are way off the beaten path. They generate most of their own electricity with two windmills that can be a bit annoying if your cabana is close to them and the wind is up. And of course the generator runs if the wind isn't blowing. The staff were quite nice, had much better English than my very poor Spanish and we had no issues unless we wanted to talk about nonstandard things. Going snorkeling on the boats are fun, the guides are extremely knowledgeable about local waters, and it's huge fun to go blasting around at full speed down the waterways in the bay. Locals come to the bar and it's interesting to chat with them. Rooms and bathrooms were clean, neat and stocked, oh no box. I personally don't recommend it for younger kids as there is very little for them to do. Really recommended and internationally known for the fly fishing.

Nice restaurant with lots of indoor and outside tables looking over the water front. Their home brewed pale ale and porter were 5*** hovered Ordered pizza, took a long time to come and unfortunately my belly is really not happy today, feeling sick and running to the toilet? Me and my friend shared, both of us feel the same!

The coconut fried fish fillet with mango salsa as well as the ceviche are to die for. They have a wide range of beverage options, some of which are made in house I believe.
