You get to swim with the turtles at this beach. We had to pay an entrance fee. The. When you walk in they try to aggressively sell you tours to swim in the water. I had already known where the turtles were so I did not get a plan. However, if you want to see 10 or more turtles you will have to get a guide in order to swim through the buoys they put in which is where most of the turtles are. They said they are protecting the turtles home by doing this because it was becoming over run with tourists. We swam face to face with three turtles without paying the extra fee. There are restaurants on the beach and dive shops to get everything you need. We just used goggles.

Nice, but you're in trap. You need to pay everything. Parking, entering fee etc. You can't snorkeling more than 100 feet you need to pay for Mexican guides. Not free doom to enjoy. Beach already covered by hotels. try it one time, it's not bad. Make sure you have right amount money otherwise those Mexicans are different than other places es. They will leak your every penny.

The beach is nice and tropical. The water is beautiful and clear. What isn't clear though are the rules for the beach and swimming. When you come down the road, there are people directing you to park and looking to rent life jackets to you. We were told you needed the life jackets to be able to swim there so you don't damage the sea grass and can't get close enough to touch the sea turtles. So, we rented life jackets and when we went to swim and look at turtles we were told we couldn't unless we paid to go with a tour group. The area where we were allowed to swim didn't require life jackets and there wasn't a turtle to be seen. I tried a couple of times to go where the turtles were, but was kicked out right away as they had people on kayaks patrolling and kicking out anyone who hadn't paid for a tour.
That being said, if you want to pay to see turtles, then it would be a neat experience.I did notice though that the groups that went out were not out there for very long.

Beautiful beach! I stayed at the Secrets Akumal resort so that's mostly my beach experience. I love that the whole beach is public so you can walk for miles in either direction and swim wherever. The sand is pretty fine and white so it's comfortable underfoot.

Tons of seaweed when we went and the staff was trying very hard to get it all carted off. I don't envy that job. Typically I heard it's not like that and it was just the way the tide came in but honetly, it didn't bother me. Still plenty of spots without it.

Snorkeling was awesome. We spotted a giant sea turtle, sting ray, and fish in the coral reef not too far out. I would have liked to go out further but they do rope off areas for safety for both the animals and tides coming in. There are snorkeling/scuba expeditions you can go on and I think next time, I'll take advantage.

Recently spent a week at a private residence a mere 10 minute walk from the beach. We found the beach clean and well supervised by local businesses and officials placed there to advise snorkelers of the new rules limiting access to what is likely is best and easiest place to view turtles. Many joggers can be seen enjoying their morning run along an almost deserted beach (8am). Two fine restaurants overlook the bay. Both provides great food and service. Many people come for the day with their coolers of food and drink and portable music. Great for all ages. If you run low of supplies there are a few shops in walking distance to replenish. Safe. Clean and not too crowded.

Beware of the people trying to trick you into the "government owned" snorkeling place. Just walk straight to the beach and go to the hut on the left. You'll have the same service, lockers and bathroom.

Beatifull beach for diving and see the turtles and small colored fishes. Be careful with the the life jackets rental. They will try to cheat you telling that you're not allow to swim with the turtles without a life jackets and this is NOT TRUE. The only restriction is an area marked with buoys and you're not allowed to swim with fins.

Pretty beach beautiful views. You do not get hassled here now as they have moved on the vendors that were annoying the tourist. You can go see the turtles but I took in the scenery from the beach restaurant. 😁

This beach is beautiful and you can swim with turtles. Just remember, this beach is completely free! Everyone here who said they had to get a guide got suckered. It's a lie, they always say "there's a new law that just passed that requires you to get a guide", even the taxi drivers are in on it. There are signs everywhere that say "this is a free public beach". Ignore the guides, don't acknowledge them or just say no.
Here's how you do it:
1. Get there early, it gets crowded by noon.
2. Look for the Dive Shop, not the dive center. It's on the far left if you are facing the beach. You can rent lockers, life vest which I recommend, and snorkeling equipment if you don't have your own. It's affordable.
3. Walk in front of Secrets Akumal resort. You cant use their chairs, but the beach is free for all to use. There are yellow flags that signal what is private property and what isnt.
4. Leave your valuables in a locker. The rest will stay on the sand.
5. Look for turtles! You have to go out about 60ft to start seeing any.
6. Look at the suckers who paid $30 per person for a guide and rejoice. (The guides don't have 🐢 trackers, they're out there just like you looking for turtles.) If you can't swim then you might have to consider getting a guide, if you do. Don't be afraid to negotiate. Enjoy!

Two years ago I'd have rated this 5 stars, but in 2016, they stayed mandating that all exploration of the reef required you to be accompanied by one of their 'guides' as well as a host of other costly rules. I get wanting to protect the reef but I'm not sure how charging to use the bathroom has done that (seriously, bring 5 peso coins) and the guides will only take groups of 6, so if you have more, you're getting two guides. You can still go in the water and use the beach (which is a great beach, hence 3 stars) but be aware that sunblock is banned so fairer people may feel the burn too quickly to really enjoy the beach.

We were staying at the Palladium Resort and decided to come check out the beach. We took the collectivo to the beach and it took about 15 minutes. We had to walk about 5 minutes to get to the beach and on our way there people were trying to get us to sign up for snorkeling and turtle adventures. There are also shops and stands that were selling food and other goods. They have a small shop where you can get food and drinks right by the water. The water was amazing. I loved the beautiful colors here. We purchased a snorkeling trip from one of the natives there. We saw a barracuda and a couple of turtles. I’m sure if we went out deeper we would have saw more, but I can’t swim so he couldn’t take us out further. I wish the water was clearer so we could and got better pics.

The hotel was spotless, it really made a great relaxing atmosphere. The staff were fabulous & couldn't do enough. The food was very varied with the different restaurants and beautifully presented. The location was on the outer limits of main population but suited myself & my partner. The options for transport to the nearest major town Playa de Carmen was easy & cheap. All in all a great week.

This is a terrific small little all inclusive resort. It only has 330 rooms so it's nice and quaint. If you get a room in building 3 you're right on the beach. If the food had been a little more consistent, I'd give it 5 stars.
